Bed & Breakfast

Up in the woods above Lyon, lively Karine has used a her own version of 'smart-rustic' to create big, low-key, eminently comfortable rooms

Once settled on this wooded hilltop in restfully subdued, country-smart comfort, you can’t imagine that super-urban Lyon is only 10 minutes away. Karine’s converted farm buildings are sophisticated yet simple – and so is she, with a genuine interest in other people and a flair for interiors. With 2000 years of European history in its bones and a solid reputation for good food, Lyon has myriad treasures to see and taste. After a day of discovery (or work) in the city or the countryside, relax in the green and birdsung garden. Tomorrow there will be delicious breakfast in the ‘auberge’ dayroom.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Karine Laurent

  • The Paul Bocuse cookery school, which provides high-level training for future chefs and restaurant staff, is just up the road. The good news? They run classes for adults, too. More good news? You can stay chez Karine and walk to school every day.
  • Explore the gastronomic capital with more than 1,500 eateries in the city! From Bocuses’ renowned brasseries (le Nord, le Sud, l'Est and l'Ouest) to Café Comptoir Abel and Café des Fédérations for a delicious Lyonnaise experience. Try Chez Moss too.
  • Don’t miss out on the Festival of Lights, from 6-9 December 2018! Soak up the magical atmosphere with over 50 artistic light installations in Lyon’s buildings, streets, squares and parks by Lyon’s light designers. A fabulous spectacle, free & open to all.
  • Explore the Beaux Arts museum for a wonderful collection of antiquity and contemporary art. A short walk away at Place des Terreaux. Visit the Confluence museum too for a fascinating journey through cultures, history and science – a must see.
  • Climb the beautiful Fourvière Basilica (accessible by foot, funicular, or car) and savour the panoramic view of Lyon at the top. Afraid of heights? Hire a bicycle and soak up the views along the banks of the Rhône.
  • Visit L'Institut Restaurant in historic Lyon, the training restaurant of Paul Bocuse, for superb contemporary, local cuisine. Watch the chefs at work while you wine and dine thanks to the open kitchens.
