There is a gentle elegance about this house and the people who live in it, including three sleek cats and two friendly dogs. Of Scots and Irish origin, the Barrs also give you run of the pretty garden with swimming pool. Their love for this 1750s farmhouse shows in their artistic touch with decorating, their mix of old and modern furniture, their gorgeous big bedrooms done in soft pale colours that leave space for the views that rush in from the hills. A high place of comfort and civilised contact where dinner in the airy white living room is a chance to get to know your kind, laid-back hosts more fully.

We were made very welcome by Mary and Greig Barr in their beautiful home and enjoyed an evening with them en route to Calais. Everything was very comfortable and the delicious evening meal much appreciated. What a privilege it is to be the recipients of such hospitality if only for a night’s stay!

Wow, what a place. Faultless in every way. Mary & Greig and their visiting family were so kind & thoughful. Our children enjoyed their stay too, particularly playing on the piano & in the warm outdoor pool. The house has a rustic charm and the views are spectacular. The best thing has to be the hospitality though, made to feel so at ease and welcome, nothing is too much trouble. Mary & Greig make a great team & the home cooked meals and wonderful breakfasts are delicious. This place came highly recommended and we now understand why! Looking forward to a return visit.

This was a perfect place to stop off on our way to the Alps. Mary and Greig were the perfect hosts. The house is charming and welcoming. The pool is the perfect temperature. We had a beautiful home cooked meal and interesting conversation with our hosts and the other guests. This was more than dog friendly too, Poppy, our exhuberant 10 month old Labrador was even allowed a swim. This is a classic Alistair Sawday place, and we could not have expected better. Thank you.

Our family of 5 were lucky enough to be one of the first guests to stay in the beautiful self-contained gite that the owners Grieg and Mary lovingly built in the style of the local area. The views from all the rooms were spectacular! What made our stay particularly memorable was the delightful company of Mary, Greig and their family members who were generous with their hospitality. We stayed just over a week, and they made us feel totally at home. We would love to visit again (our 6 year old is already asking when he could next jump in to that amazing pool!). A BIG thank you.

Wonderful welcome, excellent room and great food. What's not to like!

We were made to feel especially welcome by Mary and Grieg who naturally made us feel at home. Their house and garden are delightful with lovely views over rolling countryside and the good sized swimming pool was very welcome. We experienced great home cooking with wine included.

We were very apprehensive about staying in someone else's house as we have normally used hotels on the way to The Alps. We missed our train and so turned up in the dark. We were welcomed by Mary and Greig who are just lovely and we were treated to a fabulous home cooked meal. My kids can be fussy with food but they ate everything placed in front of them. That said, so did we- it was lovely! We were treated to the full wonder of the property and location in the morning. Even in the rain the property was beautiful and the children loved running around. Would we stay again - yes! Loved it

This is a fantastic place to stay. The hosts are truely charming and wonderfully hospitable. Breakfast and supper were delicious and nothing was too much trouble. A lovely setting with lovely people!

iv stayed at Grieg/Marys many times and with Greig s Scottish dry wit and Marys irish charm a stay hear is lovely food /wine is unbelievable and always look forward to my stay this is a 10 star B/B

We arrived at this lovely farmhouse with our two dogs after a long journey north from Italy. A delicious dinner in their wonderful company awaited us, we had a luxuriously comfortable night and a sumptuous breakfast the next morning. Mary and Greig could not have made us and our dogs feel more welcome. We would love to have stayed longer and Longeville will be our treasured stopping place from now on en route from Normandy to Italy and back.

Just how do they do it? Mary and Greig have an exceptional rapport with guests - we felt as though we were old friends within minutes of arrival - joining two other guests for supper, just as if we were at home! We enjoyed an excellent meal, with copious wine, very tasty and prepared with detailed care by Mary. Totally relaxing - oiled by a delightful mixture of Scottish humour and Irish charm. We'd spent three weeks in Italy, always on rock hard beds - the comfort of the bed and deep silence of the night was bliss! . . and we met a Met fingerprint expert & a Rolls-Royce executive - of course!

We stayed 2 nights and would have stayed longer. The place is very characterful, comfortable and peaceful. Mary and Greig provide a warm welcome and great conversation. A pleasure to have spent time with them. We enjoyed a very nice evening meal and top quality breakfasts. Two friendly dogs add to the relaxed feel of the place.

An Update really - we have stayed several times at Longeville and never been disappointed, Food, company, and rooms as good as ever. Greig has even managed to make progress on some of his outdoor projects even if the Site Boss remains (officially) unimpressed. We'll be back..

Wonderful visit, our first in this area. Mary and Grieg are charming and excellent cooks and hosts. Our stay was so peaceful, breakfast and dinners a veritable feast, beginning out in the lawn and ending happy hours later in their dining room. We loved our room; spacious, quiet, views out over the countryside, and a huge bath with all the little extras. They are easy to be with, very entertaining, and guided us around the area with ease. Highly recommended, hope to return soon for a trip to Lyon and more fun!

Mary and Greig are very kind and welcoming hosts. Our stopover en route from Italy to the UK could not have been more comfortable or relaxing, and getting to know them over a delicious dinner was a real holiday treat. We will certainly visit again and can highly recommend others to do so.

A peaceful and extremely comfortable spot with delightful and thoughtful hosts. Spacious and spotless accommodation - a wonderful place to relax.

We stayed at Longeville on our way up from Provence back to Calais. The house is extremely pretty, set in lovely countryside Mary and Greig were perfect hosts. We had a dog and a baby with us and both had a lovely time. Marys cooking was delicious and she cooked a wonderful vegetarian meal for us. Longevilles location would lend itself to a perfect stopover on the way to the Alps or Provence. We will definitely return!

A special gem amongst the many Sawday jewels. Peaceful but accessible location in the perfect place for a trip south or to the alps; delightful and welcoming hosts; generous hospitality with fine food and wine; large, comfortable rooms. It was our most enjoyable stop en route for a long time. Our first visit to Mary and Greig, the first of many we hope. Low key, relaxed but outstanding in every way.

Greig and Mary were great fun to stay with as they are both very amusing, engaging and generous. Their house is a delight and the accommodation is excellent. We loved our stay. It was so relaxing staying here and we soon felt like old friends as we walked the dogs, swam in the pool (with stunning views of the magnificent countryside) and shared meals with them and their charming family and friends.
