The
Experience

Shaded by wind-rushed birches is this upstairs-downstairs little chalet, built by Colleen’s husband, Jean-Marie, a well-known mountain guide. She runs her own ski company and they live across the garden. It is light and bright and stylish in country furniture and modern checks. Downstairs is open plan with a roundly rustic dining table, a snug shower room with bathrobes, a washing machine and a kitchen with pottery and timeless pine. The cosily charming living area is graced with colourful textiles, prints hang on the timber walls, there’s a perfect red sofa and a stereo. A floor-to-ceiling window looks onto the garden, filling the space with light. Kids love the mezzanine with its ladder to two single mattresses. Up the wooden spiral staircase is the main bedroom with its balcony and magnificent mountain views. Outside stairs leads down to the garden where roses clamber up wooden walls, geraniums fill window boxes, creepers weave through a pile of stacked slates. You are on the edge of pretty Les Tines and a bus brings you to even prettier Chamonix. Well above normal chalet standards.

Local points of interest from Colleen Olianti

  • Chamonix is a bustling Alpine town surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Winter or summer, there is so much to do - Mont Blanc provides the backdrop to incredible adventure.
  • From Mazot Les Tines there are some beautiful walks along the river Arve, or up to the Petit Balcon which runs along the middle of the valley. In summer there is a pony riding centre close by.
  • The little mountain train stops at Les Tines. The service runs up and down the valley to several ski areas, or further afield into Switzerland.
  • Italy is a short bus or car ride away, through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Chamonix sits at the border of France, Italy and Switzerland.
  • The valley has some stunning restaurants to enjoy - from local Savoyarde to 1 and 2* Michelin menus, there is an amazing variety of good places to eat.

Introducing

Colleen Olianti

Colleen and Jean-Marie own several chalets across the valley, which they run with relaxed efficiency and a team of excellent staff – you’ll be well looked after. Jean-Marie is a Chamonix native: a well-respected mountain guide, he’s taken various politicians and celebrities around the peaks and slopes of the area, including Pierce Brosnan during the ski scenes of The World Is Not Enough.
