You’ll feel high up here. The splendid Alps lie below you, the air glistens with purity and you can see for miles. In its pristine setting, this place is unusual in being a lovely old farmhouse rather than a new chalet like any other. In the eaves above the main house, your big apartment has been completely renovated – and most sympathetically decorated. In the open-plan living room, logs burn in the original wood-clad fireplace, colourful rugs and comfy leather sofas with throws and cushions draw you in, there are DVDs, telly, books and games. Nothing is too precious – just cosy, comfortable and rustic. Light floods in to the good functional kitchen – not state of the art but with everything you need and an island work surface. The warmly welcoming bedrooms, all timber like the rest, lead off this central space, with soft duvets, lace pillowcases and painted furniture. Set off from the house for summer hiking, cross-country skiing or snowshoe walks, or drive just ten minutes to the wonderful slopes of La Clusaz. A day in pretty, water-laced Annecy is a must – and perhaps a boat trip on the lake.
