The Experience

This stylish chalet is set in a restored farmhouse in a hamlet dating from the early 1800s that’s inhabited by mostly local families – you’re five minutes outside Morzine and Alex will happily ferry you there and back.

Inside is contemporary and very cosy, with sheepskin rugs, underfloor heating and a vast fireplace in the living room. Alex and Tom aim for a home-from-home feel, with meals eaten together around the large table in the double-height dining room – enjoy delicious four-course dinners and hearty breakfasts with pastries, homemade granola and poached eggs. There’s a bar too, with a good selection to suit all tastes.

You’re in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, the largest ski area in the world. Spend the day on the slopes, return for a massage, a session in the outside hot tub or a game of pool, followed by an aperitif before dinner.

Reviews

This is a fantastically fun place to stay - a chalet with tons of character and everything has been well designed. Alex and Tom are brilliant hosts - they're warm and relaxed and will ensure great conversation. This was the perfect base from which to explore and cycle in the Portes du Soleil - and then to return to relax and unwind.

Location

The neighbourhood

This is a great spot for anyone wanting to be a stone’s throw from a ski resort (although Morzine feels more like a small town) without being in the thick of things. You’re a two-minute walk to a bus stop that takes you into town or Alex will happily drop you off. Les Gets is also about ten minutes away. Ask her for recommendations on what to do locally, including restaurants and activities.

Local points of interest from Alex Bailey-Staines

  • Chalet Fourmiliere is the perfect base for skiers and non-skiers. Boasting some of the most extensive skiing in the world with runs, from confidence building beginner slopes, to some serious off piste… with everything in between…
  • If dashing downhill on a pair of planks is not your thing, why not try snowshoeing, paragliding, night sledging, or even the much more gentle cross-country skiing… Or just curl up on the sofa by the biggest fireplace in Morzine with a good book!
  • Our local knowledge means we can help you have the best winter snow holiday ever. We ferry you to the slopes, and pick you up again, so you can thoroughly enjoy both mountain restaurants and the famous Happy Hours or Folie Douce après ski ☺

Introducing

Alex Bailey-Staines

Alex and Tom are both warm, interesting people who want everyone to get to know each other, get on well and have a good time. Both are from Buckinghamshire, and Tom still travels back to the UK to work for a few days a week – he’s usually at the chalet from Thursday to Sunday nights. He’s a consultant for retail organisations and also works with various charities. Alex was a small business and life coach who still does some work remotely and is passionate about food and the history of Morzine.
