The Experience

This lovely Savoyard farmhouse is set in a hamlet just outside the village of Châtel. Find balconies, big windows and stunning views overlooking the pine-packed valley and iced mountains.

Andy and Lorraine are delightful and dedicated hosts. In winter you’ll be fully catered for – wake up to a breakfast of cereals, yogurts, local bread, pastries and homemade jams, followed by afternoon tea and four course dinners of the best organic and locally grown ingredients. Delicious treats of eggs from the hens, truffled pecorino and Lake Geneva trout flow from the kitchen or the terrace’s wood-fired oven.

Spend your days conquering the huge Portes du Soleil ski domaine; choose from five nearby lifts – you’ll get dropped off and picked up again – or explore Lake Geneva and Montreux, both less than an hour’s drive away. Gather for log fires and nightcaps around the three-beam coffee table and retire to your cosy en suite bedroom under fluffy throws.

Reviews

I loved the vast window with fabulous views over the valley, the charming, stylish bedrooms, and fascinating artwork. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat in a hamlet very close to the lively resort of Châtel, you couldn't do better than Lorraine & Andy's tastefully restored old farmhouse. A warm welcome and great hospitality awaits you along with delicious beautifully-presented dishes!

Another amazing week with Lorraine and Andy. Not only have they maintained their incredibly high standards but they have managed to improve it further with the creation of two truly beautiful new rooms. We stayed in "Bumble' which has wonderful views up the valley towards Chatel. Despite the best efforts of epic snowfalls throughout the week, the short transfers to/from the slopes continued without a hitch as did the longer transfers to the airport. Thanks for a lovely relaxing week and the delicious menu that continues to impress.

We had yet another FANTASTIC stay with Andy and Lorraine at Chalet Cannelle. No other chalet comes close to this one! Andy's food is sublime. Terrific varied menu, gorgeous food, lovingly prepared and Lorraine is the perfect host where nothing is too much trouble. The chalet is a stuning place to relax after a hard day on the slopes and the hot tub is fab! Quite simply - the best winter chalet experience! Can't wait to go back.

Location

The neighbourhood

Chalet Cannelle is in the small hamlet of Suvay just outside the lively and still predominantly French-owned resort of Châtel. It's set down a narrow road next to a handful of other chalets and has uninterrupted mountain views. You're within the massive Portes du Soleil resort so fantastic skiing and boarding - both on-piste and cross-country - are on your doorstep. For calmer days, drive - or get a lift from your hosts - to Châtel (2.2km) in less than five minutes and La Chapelle d'Abondance (3.3km) for shops, cafés and great restaurants.

Local points of interest from Lorraine McDermott

  • The chalet is in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, 650km of terrain across France and Switzerland. Easy skiing access to Avoriaz, Morzine & Champoussin
  • The chalet is close to 4 different ski lifts into the Portes du Soleil. Our favourite ski day is the tour from La Chapelle, through Switzerland and Avoriaz and back to Chatel. Afternoon tea is very appreciated after that day out!
  • We can organise airport transfers with a local company at a special rate. Fully catered price includes transfer to the slopes
  • The style of dining at Chalet Cannelle is chefs table. Everything is made from scratch..expect to see fresh pasta being rolled or ice cream being churned. We use the best produce including free range meat. Our beautiful hens provide our eggs
  • We are partnered with a specialist in-house ski fitting service, providing quality ski equipment to our guests without leaving the chalet. We also offer a chauffeur in / out service to a ski lift of your choice
  • The chalet is family friendly and well suited to groups with children. The kids TV and playroom on the mezzanine are packed with things to keep them amused! We also offer 'Just Adults' weeks outside of the school holidays
