Les Marais

Charpey, Drôme
Bed & Breakfast

Charmingly rural, utterly peaceful, with traditional local dishes for dinner – products of the organic farm. The Vercors mountains beckon

2 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 - 3

Opt for the simple country life at this friendly farm, which has been in the family for over 100 years and has returned to organic methods. A couple of horses, a few hens, and, when there’s a full house, beautiful meals of regional recipes served family-style, with homemade chestnut cake and ‘vin de noix’ aperitif. Monsieur collects old farming artefacts and Madame, although busy, always finds time for a chat. The bedrooms are in a separate wing with varnished ceilings, antique beds, some florals; baths are old-fashioned pink, new showers delight Americans. At the foot of the Vercors range, French charm, utter peace.

Excellent location for visiting the Vercors. Or if enroute north to south. Madame does everything she can to help you enjoy your stay and meals reflect the seasonal products on the farm. Monsieur is keen for political debate over a glass of wine or a pear liquor. Bedroom and bathroom not particularly large but very good value for money.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Christiane & Jean-Pierre Imbert

  • You can have a nice picnic outside or in the garden. A table is provided for that.
  • The International Footwear Museum is just 10km away in Romans-sur-Isére
  • Visit Vercors and the Museum at Vassieux en Vercors , of hisstorical significance since World War Two.
  • Visit the 'Palais Ideal du Facteur Cheval' in Hauterives - 20 kms
  • Direction: don’t go to ‘Village de Charpey’ as we do not live in the village. You must arrive by Alixan then take the road of St-Didier-Charpey. There will be signs with ‘Chambres d’hotes’, follow them for about 3kms.
