The
Experience

A feast of colour and art, surrounded by breathtaking views, the Morin house is a visual treat, and is owned by a charming couple. He has created the windows and ironwork of the pergolas, she has tiled, fresco’d and frieze’d bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen, with skill and imagination. Bedrooms are all river-side, brilliantly done, and fun. Dine on the terrace at one long table amongst a fabulous collection of pots and clambering plants, with the magnificent cliff beyond and rushing river sounds. A second terrace with ponds and goldfish almost drips over the river – the perfect solace. Tons to do nearby. Stunning.

Reviews

Spell-binding view from an exceptionally nice terrace -- the BnB overlooks the river -- which may prompt you to stay in rather than head to the restaurant. Very warm and charming hosts. River-swimming a joy: bring your crocs. A pleasure. Would recommend to anyone.

Nick, London

This is a special place in a special location. A warm welcome from Frederic and Salome, delicious dinner and a superb view from our room of the river Drome. One of the highlights was a beaver swimming upriver in the evening, laid on by Frederic at 1855 just before dinner! Definitely a "tick and return".

Penelope, Leicester

This is really a wonderful place. The setting and views alone are enough to make this place stand out but when you add in the quality of the facilities, comfort and cuisine, you have something very special. Salome and Frederic are wonderful hosts and made sure the whole family enjoyed themselves. We very much look forward to our next visit.

Helena, Oxford

Frederic and Salome have created a wonderful place in this old Silk Mill. We had a warm welcome and were told the history of the place. Our room was large and comfortable with a fantastic view but the real treat is their terrace where we had dinner and breakfast all beautifully presented at a long table. Frederic and Salome are lovely, interesting hosts and took care to make sure everyone was OK. This a real 'Grand Design'. Our only regret was that we were only staying one night - we will definitely be including a longer stay on our next trip to France.

Andrew, Dorking

It is worth a diversion just to meet Salome & Frederic, they are such a lovely friendly, slightly bohemian couple. The rooms are a delight, cool and spacious with Salome's decorative take on Picasso, Matisse etc. Eating together on their beautiful terrace overlooking the river and mountains is bliss. This was our second visit, we must stay longer next time.

Patricia, Monmouth

Rest assured this is an exceptional place to stay both location ally high above the flowing Drome which gently sent us to sleep, and because of the service of our hosts Morin and Salome who not only provided wonderful cuisine but amazing help with itinerary maps to match our specific interests of walking for flora and butterflies on quiet byways and paths. We stayed for two nights but next time will definitely make it longer.

Robert, Stroud

Another excellent Sawday B&B - lived up to the writeup in every way, and more! With German, English and French around the dinner table, we had a lively and interesting time with Frederic as M C ( and piano player ) and Salome producing an excellent repas of local specialities Merci bien

A stay at Saillans with Frédéric and Salomé provides an architectural and artistic delight in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The excellent dinner prepared by Salomé and shared with the hosts and their other guests was great fun and the food delicious. Breakfast was always an enjoyable occasion and Frédéric would take great pains afterwards to help us plan our day. We stayed for 4 days and loved the relaxed and convivial atmosphere.

Anthony, Bangor, north wales

We stayed here for 2 nights with 2 teenagers. We all loved the converted mill with its spectacular views and artistic conversion. The hosts are delightful and we really felt we were welcome guests. Delicious food and Frederic was a brilliant guide to the area. A pleasure to stay with a couple who clearly love their property and the local area so much.

Pippa, West wittering

The description says it all. This is a special place, beautifully situated, with fantastic views and welcoming hosts. Fun to share breakfast and an evening meal with hosts, Frederic and Salome, and other guests.

Anne

The sense of care, love, attention and vision are abundant. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The space is full of artistic and architectural flair and humour. The hosts were kind, helpful and warm. It was a short 5min walk from the town centre. Excellent- we will be going back.

Michael

a beautiful house in a stunning location overlooking the river with mountain crags towering above, full of exquisite art works by the hosts Frederic and Salome who made us very welcome. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious.

Sheila

To comvert an old factory overlooking the river Drome and turn it into a home with delightful terraces requires imagination and the two artist owners have that. It is a home open to visitors and a very special place to stay. We had all we needed for comfort and the attention of the hosts. A shame that we could not stay longer en route for Provence.

Robert

Our return to Frederic and Salome this year was another great success. We were welcomed back like old friends. The location is outstanding on the bank of the Drome, the views are stunning, the rooms all works of art and the meals simply delicious.

Mike

an excellent & relaxing place to stay. Lovely rooms, good showers, great views & a great welcome.

Ian

A beautiful location with lovely hosts. Staying with Frederic and Salome was like being in a work of art. The building has been lovingly restored and there are artistic touches everywhere you look from the soap dish to the walls. Our only regret is that we stayed just one night. Frederic was kind to make a reservation for us at a fabulous restaurant up in the hills where we had one of our best meals ever. Our roomwas spotless and very comfortable.

Laura

After a long drive from Tuscany we were delighted to find a wonderful and welcoming house in a superb location. The smells wafting from the kitchen promised a meal to remember and so it was. Our hosts, the delightful Salome & Frederic joined us and the other guests for the evening meal and in between delicious mouthfuls of superbly prepared food, Frederic would regale us with stories of the restoration of the old mill and insightful & interesting facts about the town. The art-work produced by the couple either together or separately is delightful. A better place you will not find.

Anton

Frederic & Salome are very sociable hosts, the house is fascinating, and our room was excellent with stunning views down to the river and up to the mountains beyond. Dinner on the terrace together with our hosts and the other guests was delicious and fun, as was breakfast next morning.

Graham

Stunning. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the sound of the river lulled us to sleep and the views from its windows were just lovely. The old silk mill has been beautifully converted. Dinner and breakfast excellent.Owners kind and friendly as well as very artistic! All for a very reasonable price.

Jill

Wonderful artist inspired bedrooms. We had a Van Gogh room, with stunning views over the river. Convivial supper with mixed nationalities. Delicious food. A memorable stay.

Local points of interest from Frédéric & Salomé Morin

  • In addition to numerous bathing spots along the Drôme River (at the bottom of our B&B) you may enjoy narrow but natural pools, cut into the bedrock by waterfalls, at Pontaix (12km) or Veronne (2km).
  • Canoeing and kayaking are very popular - in Saillans you may rent a canoe and have a marvelous day in this soft river bathed by sun, not at all touristy compared to the Ardeche.
  • Go hiking and enjoy wide panoramas of the Alps, or walk along rivers such as the Drome. You can also cycle along small roads following the Drome, as well as off-road. Climb in the morning, ride down in the afternoon then relax on the terrace before dinner.
  • Lavender abounds in the summer, and the flat plains, farmed for hundreds of years, along with the vineyards complete the traditional farms whose geometrical lines strengthen the landscape.
  • You may fall in love with the Drome's famous local produce - the sparkling 'Clairette de Die' dessert wine, 'Picodon', a goats cheese that we prepare with olive oil and herbs, ravioles, caillettes, and organic fruit and veg.
  • Visit the medieval hilltop villages of Cobonne or Mirabel (8km) with their surrounding walls, castles such as the Tower of Crest (15km), the highest in France, as well as numerous medieval chapels and lovely churches.
