Paris Riverside

La Varenne Saint Hilaire, Val-de-Marne

Float down the Marne, stroll its banks or hop on a train into Paris. A lovely fresh renovation of an old stables - superb for families

2 bedrooms

Sleeps 6

Could this be the perfect mix? Your own ‘country cottage’ for quiet seclusion in a bushy bird-filled garden, the magnificent Marne river flowing broad at the bottom of the road for tree-lined walks and boating, the delightful little town shops (and market) a stroll away – and Paris a hop on the train. Behind a typical 1890s country house (residence of an actor who used to race to his Paris theatre on horseback), the converted stablehands’ rooms have become two sweet bedrooms in mushroom and white with a superb new shower room between them. In an attractive extension is the large friendly living space lit by three windows, warmed by a generous fireplace and furnished for comfort without clutter. Colours are unflashy, fittings are new, the kitchen has everything, the sofabed is top quality. Make this spacious house your own for a week and you get the best of both worlds – Paris and countrified Varenne. The lovely young owners, professional musicians, are happy to give you advice, loan bikes, and leave toys in the cupboard if children are staying.

I almost hesitate to review Riverside lest it is fully booked the next time we want to stay, but this really is the most wonderful place to stay as a family when visiting Paris. The journey into central Paris couldn't be easier, the local restarants and shops are good and the evening walks by the river Marne are a joy. Olivier and his family are helpful and welcoming. It is a tranquil base from which to explore Paris at your own pace. The house itself is comfortable and well-equipped. We'll be back!

We (family of 5) had a lovely week in Paris Riverside! The house is very nice and quiet and the hospitality of the owners is very warm and great. The connection to Paris Centre is very easy; only a 5 min walk to the nearest railway station brings you in about 30 minutes to all touristic locations. We definitely plan to come again to this beautiful house, nice family and perfect location to discover Paris.

Our family of mixed ages had a most fantastic and memorable stay at Paris Riverside. The cottage was perfectly suited to our needs. We loved having fresh fruit and breads - that we had biked to get that morning - outside on the patio as we planned our day. The River Marne - just down the street- has lovely walking, jogging, biking trails that provide a quiet and calm with bustling farmer's markets to visit. Learning the RER and navigating the Paris Metro was part of the adventure as we explored lots of Paris each day. Lastly, Aurore and Olivier are the most kind and welcoming of spirits.
