Le Domaine des Tilleuls

Malaucène, Vaucluse

Cool off in the pool, find a shady spot in the garden, wander to shops and restaurants of Malaucène from your hotel

19 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 4

Bowl down the plane-tree lined road into the touristy, buzzing atmosphere of the town with its shops and good places to eat. Then step through an ancient gate to find peace and calm in this stone house (a silk farm in the late 1700s) with its huge garden, cooling pool and shading lime trees. You will be greeted by Louis and Florence Saint Joire who live on site and are always handy. There’s plenty of space, so even if the place is full you can feel private: take breakfast in the large dining room with tiled floor, or the greenhouse-like annexe, or in the garden when the sun is out. Sleep peacefully in bedrooms split between the main house (bright and airy, some with beams, all relaxing and comfortable) and more compact rooms in the annexe (painted pastel colours with antique furniture). Cyclists are very happy (they return again and again) with the start of the Mont Ventoux ascent on the doorstep, good hiking around the Dentelles de Montmirail is a 10-minute drive, Roman excavations are nearby and lavender fields are abundant. But you can just don a straw hat (hanging by the garden door) and hang around here happily doing not very much.

Really lovely hotel in a beautiful part of Provence. Clean and comfortable with a delicious smell of lavender. Helpful English speaking hosts with excellent suggestions on what to do and where to visit locally.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Louis & Florence Saint Joire

  • A charming 1.2 hectare park abundant with greenery and locally referred to as the ‘Poumon vert’ (green lung) due to the majestic two hundred year-old trees.
  • Ideally situated on the Mont Ventoux road which is the holy grail for any cyclist! Eddy Merckx, the famous champion, said to the hotel owner that out of his 525 victories, his summit victory in 1970 was amongst his top five most challenging.
  • The area is also a paradise for hikers with beautiful trails spread around the Giant of Provence (Mont Ventoux) and the majestic Dentelles de Montmirail.
  • Just a minute stroll from the centre of Malaucène, a typical French village with plenty of classic French restaurants and bars.
  • Not far is the city of Avignon (TGV station /40 min) which hosts its famous July festival. Also, nearby is the city of Orange (30 min drive) where the opera festival is held every year in July and August.
  • Two lodges have been built in 2015. Located at the far end of the park and available for weekly rent.
