The
Experience

In the hilltop village of Montauroux, on a pretty quiet street close to the square (cafés, market, bars) is this whitewashed townhouse with orange shutters, both elegant and understated. Austrian Elisabeth, warm and delightful, leaves Provence in winter for Vienna, and offers her ground and first floors to guests. Inside is equally delightful; you get a smart, neat kitchen, an open-plan dining room full of light, and a contemporary sitting room you’ll not want to leave. White walls, chunky beams, sofas, books, paintings and an open fire make sure all is cosy and homely. Two small, stylish bedrooms await upstairs – both with a breathtaking view – and the bathroom, with bath and shower, gleams. As for the garden, it’s at its lushest in summer, when Elisabeth returns to do B&B and the garden apartment is let. Its bedroom is in Provençal style and its ‘summer kitchen’ is brilliantly equipped: oven, dishwasher, fridge. Discover perched villages, vineyards and perfumes in Grasse, then return to palm trees and lawns, lavenders and bamboo, and seating spots with heaven-sent views.

Reviews

We enjoyed our stay at Elisabeths place in the small village of Montouroux very much. From the veranda we had a wonderfull view over the hills and the small neighbourhood villages. Elisabteh was a great host and we had a nice feeling as soon as we moved in. Very clean and comfortable.

Salome, Munich

We were welcomed by Elisabeth to her lovely home right in the old part of the village. We had our own part of the house and amazing views also a very comfortable bed. Elisabeth helped us to plan our days over a wonderful breakfast overlooking picturesque Provence. Her recommendations were all very successful. Thank you Elisabeth for your hospitality.

Paula, Marlborough

my friend and I had 5 lovely days in the beautiful house of mrs Chuffart in Montauroux. The house is large and beautiful with an incredible view all around, also on the medieval village nearby. We could use a big part of the luxery house with all the things you need. The sunset we mostly enjoyed on "our" beautiful terrace. Mrs Cuffart not only offered us an exellent breakfast but also great hospitality. She could give us a lot of information and also on the conversation with her about other things who make live valuable, we have the best memories.

Local points of interest from Elisabeth Chuffart

  • A just two minutes walk up an old pathway from the house, will bring you to the Chapel of St Barthelemy, a donation by Christian Dior to the people of Montauroux, his beloved village and his summer retreat.
  • The hilltop village of Montauroux is an excellent base from which to explore both the Côte d’Azur, its beautiful hinterland with its perched villages, and many sites of historical and artistic interest.
  • You are 20 min drive from the wonderful beaches of Theoul and 5 min from the lac ST. Cassien;as well as the internationally known Golf and Spa resort of Terre Blanche.
  • For nature lovers, a trip to the breathtakingly spectacular Gorges du Verdon, considered to be the Grand Canyon of Europe, is not to be missed. The village of Mons, 15 kms uphill from Montauroux is a fine example of Provençal mountain architecture.
  • The city of Nice itself, a mere 40 minutes’ drive away, really repays a visit. It is both dynamic and traditional with a magnificent old quarter full of artistic and architectural treasures, interesting museums. For film lovers, Cannes is a must.
  • Montauroux has a number of good restaurant with walking distance of the house as do all the other villages of the area, if you wish to venture further afield and do not miss a visit to the local wineries.
