The
Experience

Charming, tranquil old Provence. Among ancient olive and almond trees on a south-facing hillside overlooking medieval Tourrettes; the Esterel hills beyond. This is a peach of a place, with its travertine marble terrace where you can eat in the shade and soak up the mesmerising views; take a few steps down for a dip in the classy little pool then take a sunbed facing the same display. Inside is equally inviting; unfussily decorated with a smattering of rustic antiques, warm colours, family pieces and paintings. From the sitting room, cosy in winter with its corner wood-burner, an old spiral stair leads to the biggest, balconied double room, with high ceilings and terrific views, and the children’s  windowless bunk-bedded room. Up again, under the eaves, a spacious twin room with antique pine furniture and two oeil de boeuf windows, has a handy back door on to the terraced garden. Go kayaking, lake swimming, cycling and walking – it’s half an hour’s drive to the coast and markets in nearby Fayence are a treat – come home and cook your Provençal feasts in the bright, practical kitchen.

Reviews

We spent Christmas and New Year relaxing in this very comfortable and inspiring location. Les Amandiers is the perfect winter 'bolt hole,' warm, cosy and very well equipped. There were enough good local restaurants to satisfy our needs at this time and mainly warm weather enabled us to enjoy wonderful walks in the area. Perfect.

Michael & jeanette, Long compton warwickshire

We wanted accommodation in the Fayence area at very short notice. Jill was very efficient at dealing with this event though she was on holiday. Les Amandiers was clean and comfortable. The location and view from the balcony were fabulous and it was an easy walk into Fayence for boulangerie, mini market ATM etc. There was parking at the property and a public car park a very short walk away. It was exactly what we wanted. Many thanks.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Jill Claxton

  • Approached via a little lane, Les Amandiers has a pebbled drive fringed with olive trees and parking for 3 cars. Our romantic rose-coloured house is heaven in summer and extremely cosy with a roaring fire in winter. There's always lots going on locally too
  • Tourrettes is a beautiful 'perched village' of Provence set in the hills behind the Cote D'Azur. 8 mins walk to Fayence with its bustling markets, 30 mins to the nearest beach. A perfect location to explore the coastal towns, beaches and mountains close by
  • One of France’s major gliding venues lies just at the foot of Fayence. The area is a paradise for cyclists, hikers and walkers, not forgetting water-sports enthusiasts who are served by the superb Lac St Cassien nearby.
  • For golfers, Four Seasons Terre Blanche resort is world-class and only 5 minutes down the road. For hikers the Gorge du Verdon is awesome and the Siagne and Siagnole rivers offer fabulous walks nearby. Immediately out of our drive are lovely walks too.
  • Our master bedroom is cool and spacious with high ceilings and a large, comfortable double bed from which you can laze in bed gazing over trees to spectacular views facing south. The bathroom /loo with a view has an exquisite view south and a power shower
  • The charming Monelle prepares the house, makes the beds and greets guests on their arrival. She happily shares her local know-how of the area - the nearby supermarkets, bars, bakeries, butchers, restaurants and all the other nearby essentials.
