Charming, tranquil old Provence. Among ancient olive and almond trees on a south-facing hillside overlooking medieval Tourrettes; the Esterel hills beyond. This is a peach of a place, with its travertine marble terrace where you can eat in the shade and soak up the mesmerising views; take a few steps down for a dip in the classy little pool then take a sunbed facing the same display. Inside is equally inviting; unfussily decorated with a smattering of rustic antiques, warm colours, family pieces and paintings. From the sitting room, cosy in winter with its corner wood-burner, an old spiral stair leads to the biggest, balconied double room, with high ceilings and terrific views, and the children’s windowless bunk-bedded room. Up again, under the eaves, a spacious twin room with antique pine furniture and two oeil de boeuf windows, has a handy back door on to the terraced garden. Go kayaking, lake swimming, cycling and walking – it’s half an hour’s drive to the coast and markets in nearby Fayence are a treat – come home and cook your Provençal feasts in the bright, practical kitchen.
