The
Experience

Imagine staying in a big, beautiful, sun-filled house up in the hills, where the living is easy and the views are sweet. It sleeps ten in comfort (five bedrooms, three bathrooms, two loos) and is fabulous for families. There’s a childminder on request, caterers too, a big beautiful heated pool, ping pong, boules, a trampoline, toys and a dressing up box, a barbecue, a pergola with a sofa, and a swathe of well-kept lawn on which children can romp. The kitchen is in contemporary country style; the dining and living rooms make one big open-plan space. The décor is simple and mostly white, the feel is breezy and the French windows open to the terrace… why move when you can nod off in a hammock? The area is very special: medieval villages, legendary beaches (Ste Maxime, Fréjus, St Tropez), amazing vineyards, and the isle of Porquerolles a ferry ride away. You can shop and eat in Draguignan or in little Figanières: its fountains and flowers are five minutes by car. Then home to a lap in the pool, a drenching shower, and a bed wrapped in laundered linen, topped with a gorgeous boutis.

Spent a long weekend here in May 2018. The house is beautiful inside, relaxed shabby chic but with all the comforts you could need. Rooms are huge and relaxing. Waking up in the morning and opening the shutters out onto the view was really special. It’s remote enough to feel away from it all but just outside a village which has everything you need, shop, bakeries, cash machine, perfect combination. Pool is amazing (and heated), views are great, plenty of loungers, a lilo, balls etc to mess about in the pool with. Table tennis table provided hours of competitive fun.

We spend one week here with our family: 6 adult, 5 children (ages: 1-9) and we truly loved it: everything we needed for a fantastic family holiday was there: a briljant (gated) swimming pool with all kinds of ging to play with, the jeu de boules voort, the trampoline, the table tennis and all the toys to play with inside and outside. We even had a family sports tournament 😀 The house is Really big so even the days where we had a bit less luck with the weather, We still enjoyed our stay a lot. I would truly recommend of to everybody to stay at the bastide. Communication with Helen was extrem

We had a fabulous, relaxing holiday here with our six month old son. A beautiful home, very well equipped and a stunning setting. Waking early to feed our baby watching the sun rise over the hills - hard to beat! And a gorgeous pool. Plenty of lounging areas for different times of day to taste local wines and cheese and enjoy a book. Helen's guide on restaurants and places to visit was also really helpful and made exploring easy and fun. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Helen!

Our holiday at this property was excellent. Your house and grounds are beautiful, spacious and so well kitted out. You really have thought of everything. The kids had a ball in the pool and with all the toys on offer. The weather was great, sunny and warm every day and the surrounding area also very picturesque. It was hard to leave!

A wonderful holiday house completely set up for children of all ages but also beautifully decorated with lovely bathrooms too. Everything had been thought of - high chairs, Cots, children's cutlery, toys, kids boule sets etc. The pool was lovely, warm and with lots of loungers. The children loved the boule area, kids playhouse and trampoline and the adults thoroughly enjoyed having breakfast looking at the most amazing view. Lots to do in the area from trying the various Rose wines, local markets, a visit to beautiful chateaudouble, and local as well as Michelin starred restaurants nearby.

This is the perfect holiday house for a family group with young children. Although I wouldn't recommend an August stay as it was so hot the pool was a lifesaver ( don't need to heat) We loved the location. Although it was high season you feel away from the crowds. Figanieres has all the basic shops and the bio bakery nearby is superb. The house is very well equipped - huge washing machine and two fridges ( as we found rather later in the week!) Don't forget to investigate the cupboards as you might miss out on a treasure trove of toys...

We have recently returned from a glorious week staying in Bastide Des Esperels celibrating a 40th Birthday in a group of 9 - including one child. The propery exceeded all our expectations. The house is set in glorious peaceful countryside with amazing views across to the mountains. The house itself was perfect, spacious, tasteful and contains everything a large group needs and more. The gardens were stunning, as was the pool and the many seating and dining areas around the property for relaxing and dining in style. House manager was on hand to help when needed. We will be back next year.

This lovely old stone-built villa is a perfect place to spend a family holiday. The open-plan interior is very spacious and airy and very tastefully decorated. Bedrooms light and airy. LOADS of really good toys, dressing up box and a trampoline apart from the wonderful pool to keep the kids occupied. Very well-equipped kitchen and good bbq. The local town is lovely and we made good use of the fountains. In fact, we preferred it to some of the more touristy towns nearby. Recommend a visit to the Gorge du Verdon.

Justine, London

Bastide des Esperels fulfilled our expectations and more! The house is superbly equipped to cater for all ages. The youngest members of our party were 3 months and 3 years , neither of them left the property the entire week - they were so contented, as were their parents. The proximity to Nice airport is a real bonus. We will definitely return.

A wonderful holiday, thank you Helen. We stayed in the villa for a week with 4 other couples, all with children aged from 0 to 5 years. The villa is spacious, beautiful and peaceful (toddlers aside), with glorious views. It is totally geared towards a successful family/group holiday with a wide range of baby equipment, toys, and of course the fabulous pool, ping pong, pétanque and trampoline - there was never a dull moment. We enjoyed some brilliant day trips to the beach, vineyards and surrounding medieval villages. A very happy and memorable holiday - we will definitely be coming back

Two thumbs up! I cannot recommend this beautiful place highly enough - in fact, I am starting to regret every other holiday I’ve ever had…! The thought and care that has gone into this home to make it perfect for families and friends is evident at every turn; a gated heated pool, a pagoda overlooking the stunning view, a fully equipped kitchen (with a whole fridge that can be dedicated to wine, thankfully), huge indoor and outdoor dining areas for entertaining in all weathers, comfy, stylish and quiet rooms, and everything a little person needs. Perfect. xx

We had an absolutely wonderful holiday at Bastide des Esperels. There were 5 families in our group, including 6 children ranging from 0-5, and there was more than enough space for all of us. The villa is absolutely stunning - just the right combination of modern and traditional, and the attention to detail is excellent. This villa is perfectly set up for children, with toys, highchairs, stairgates and baby monitors all available, as well as things for older kids such as a ping pong table and a trampoline. The outside space is amazing - fab pool and lots of games. We'll be back!

This is a very well-equipped house, which is ideally suited for babies and children of all ages. Lots to keep them amused and occupied! All the rooms are spacious and well-appointed and like the rest of the property extremely clean. We enjoyed our stay enormously and Claire, the House Manager, was very helpful pointing out places of interest, local restaurants etc. Brilliant holiday home!

Enjoyed a wonderful 2 weeks at this most beautiful property. The whole process from booking to Helen providing detailed information as and when the new pool was completed was first rate. A perfect family holiday home and incredibly well appointed if you have very young children. The house manager - Claire was extremely helpful when required and without doubt one of the best houses we have stayed at in France over the years. Wish we were still there!! Plenty to see in the surrounding villages and ideally located for day trips to the Cote D'Azur. Will be back!!

John

We had the most heavenly week at Bastide-des-Esperels exploring the Var region. The house is absolutely perfect for a family but at the same time is furnished and decorated to a boutique hotel standard. Our kids loved the pool which is huge and has a great shallow area for kids as well as ample sunbeds and umbrellas for adults to soak up the Provencal sun. We had lovely dinners sitting outside the house enjoying the local food and wine. It is a great location to explore the many little villages of the Var region and Helen had great recommendations on markets and restaurants! We will be back

Local points of interest from Helen & Clayton Bush

  • Figanières is a beautiful Medieval Provencal settlement sitting at the gateway to the 'Gorges du Verdon' making Des Esperels the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding areas -most of the local villages have remained unchanged for centuries.
  • With two championship golf courses (and spas!) a short drive away, several Michelin starred restaurants, wild swimming and tennis courts - we can even arrange private lessons - there is so much to do if you need some 'grown up' time!
  • Whether you are more at home tasting the fabulous local wine, shopping, exploring the beaches of the Côte d’Azur or rafting, horse riding, canoeing and cycling, there is something for everyone ...and we are here to help you find it!
  • The stunning beaches of the Riviera are easy to reach, the two nearest are Sainte Maxime and Fréjus. Take a trip to St. Topez, or the enchanting island of Porquerolles (the region's best kept secret!) If you prefer a mountain swim, try Lac de St Cassien!
  • This area is most famous for its Côtes de Provence rosé wine and olive production. Rosé is the favoured tipple here, so much so that you will rarely find a local drinking white! There is delicious food in the huge choice of lively and colourful markets.
  • Set amongst forests of oak, pine and maquis, villages such as Moustiers-Ste-Marie, Tourtour ‘the village in the sky’, Cotignac and beautiful Bargème are well worth a visit. And of course, the breathtaking Gorges du Verdon are yours to explore.
