The Experience

The 16th-century stone and timber priory, the oldest house in this remote narrow hamlet, has the same glorious views as ever, out over the rooftops to the surrounding peaks. Inside is all stone and timber, too, beautifully architect-renovated and furnished with a cleancut imaginative eye. The big living room has a stunning arched stone ceiling, the perfect foil for high-modern scarlet chairs and table cloths. Delighted with their Alpine venture, the charming new young owners will offer you a big traditional bedroom or a funkier cave-like room with stone nooks for lights and a sunken shower. Superb.

Reviews

Tom and Wim are great ambassadeurs of the good live in the Southern Alpes of France. They spoiled us with very nice food, local wines and selfmade appatizers. The house is lovely and looks out over the mountains. We enjoyed our ski holiday on the nearby ski slopes of Vars, Risoul, Serre Chevalier with our kids, but La Maison du Guil will also be splendid to relax in spring, summer or fall.

What an absolutely perfect gem: Wim and Tom are fabulous hosts, the rooms are beautiful and the house is in stunning, mountainous countryside. Breakfast is delicious, with a daily changing array of homemade jams, local cheeses and fresh bread. We've had a very special week of walks, great food, and we're hoping to return as there is still so much more to do.

What a fabulous place to stay. Wim and Tom spoilt us with excellent food, a beautiful special room in a great house, advice on walks and restaurants and lovely kind friendship, who could ask for more. There are lovely walks from the house and amazing scenery on the doorstep...beautiful part of the world

A beautiful, quiet location and deliciously chic accommodation. The hosts welcomed us warmly with a late supper - just what we needed, delivered with grace and simplicity. Excellent breakfasts with homemade, organic products. Wonderful walks in the surrounding hills. Delicious table d'hôte in the evening. Thank you - we had a fabulous stay.

We have just returned from 3 nights in La Maison du Guil over New Year. It was absolutely perfect. From the beautiful mountain setting, to the spotless, cosy and stylish accommodation, the delicious food, the charming and attentive hosts...this really is a very special place. Wim and Tom are totally committed to give their guests the best experience. Nothing is too much trouble and their attention to detail is impressive. We skied for 3 days in nearby Vars and Risoul, which was lovely. We had a delicious meal ( and a lovely evening) on New Year's Eve at the Maison du Guil. An amazing stay!

Excellent, high quality B&B. Attentive friendly service, lovely rooms with good use of design and colour, great views. Breakfast was a real pleasure, with homemade jams and extra little treats. The surrounding National Parks are fantastic and La Maison du Guil forms an excellent base from which to explore the area. Unfortunately I visited in the quiet season (although the weather was superb!) so evening meals weren't available - but there are plenty of restaurants and bars in the nearby town of Guillestre.

Paul, Wirral

A gem. Really relaxed place to stay with charm, beautiful rooms and excellent cooking. A peaceful hamlet with excellent opportunities to explore the surrounding mountains. We loved it.

Wow, what a special place to find! Tucked away in a little hamlet, this is a simply stunning place, where old meets new in perfect harmony. Tom and WIm made us feel so at home, cooked an AMAZING meal (still need the recipe) and we stayed in the quirkiest most amazing, beautiful room. I really can't fault this place and we can't wait to come back, though this time hopefully for a few more nights! The PERFECT hideway-and-forget-all-your-troubles place. If I've ever run away, you know where you'll find me.
