The
Experience

Sea Dreams is the perfect spot to watch the sun rise over the Mediterranean, if you’re up in time, thanks to being on the top floor of an apartment block on a south-east facing hillside. And at any time of the day, it’s definitely worth the climb up three flights of stairs. Step into a white-walled living/dining room with modern tiled floor and cheerful splashes of colour, and then straight out of sliding doors on to the large balcony to soak up those spectacular views. Guests in the double have an en suite shower and sea vistas; the twin looks over parkland and has a bathroom next door. The Swiss-based owners visit regularly and they love to cook, so the kitchen is well-equipped. For supplies, stroll down into the centre of this relaxed fishing port – beach, market, shops and restaurants are all within a ten-minute walk. Guests could even arrive in Cassis by train for a car-free holiday, but if needed there’s handy parking under the pines on the street. Heaps to do – take a boat trip to the spectacular bays of the Calanques, hike the trails on Cap Canaille, hire kayaks or use local buses to explore.

Local points of interest from Riitta Burri

  • Wednesday and Saturday is market day in Cassis. A bustling lovely little market on the village square selling all kinds of local products from fine French cheeses to saucisson, olives, summer dresses, baskets and beautiful flowers.
  • The Calanques are a stone's throw from the flat. Visit them either by boat departing from the Cassis port or on foot. Pack a hearty picnic, lots of water and a bottle of wine. There's a backpack in the closet and tupperware for precisely this purpose.
  • Meander through the cool and shady car free cobblestone streets of Cassis exploring the tidy little shops selling lovely local arts & crafts. The Cassis perfume & soap shop and museum is filled with scents of the south making wonderful gifts to take home.
  • Day trips to Aix-en-Provence, Arles, St. Tropez, Marseille and the Lubéron are a great way to explore the region. Check out their local websites for market days and events. Maps and guide books available in the flat.
  • Cassis Culturel: Concerts, art shows, film and more. Cassis has a fine little cinema showing films ALSO in English. Programs for all happenings are available at the friendly and helpful Tourist Office by the port.
  • The Bar à Vin is a great place to explore new wines. Philippe is very convivial and knows his wines. Plus the tapas make for a lovely light supper. The cozy little bar is just behind the Big Ben night club. Also, check out the vineyards for wine tastings.
