The Experience

A beautifully restored, impeccably decorated 19th-century winemaker’s farmhouse on the side of a vineyard-braided hill. It’s an elegant sort of spot and you’re looked after beautifully. Bedrooms with clean lines and thick fabrics are round the outside of the main house, while the suite is down a path screened by bamboo – all have their own little outdoor spaces.

Paved paths lead through a verdant garden bursting with pots of rosemary, thyme, lavender, sage, pebble beds of kentia palms and olive trees in wooden containers, to the centrepiece: a raised limestone pool lined with canvas loungers and surrounded by a sleek overflow wall with views across wooded hills to the grandiose ‘Charlemagne’s Crown’ cliff face.

A spectacular breakfast is served in the main house or outdoors looking over the vines: local fruit, cheeses, hams, honey and pastries – eggs if you want them. Walk into Cassis in 20 minutes for the port, shops, restaurants and beach.

Reviews

Maison 9 is paradise found in Cassis. Our accommodation, the hospitality, breakfast, surroundings and general ambience were better than expected. You just can't feel the serenity of this place from reviews, you must stay there!! We stayed in Room 2, by the pool and had our own kitchenette, really useful to prepare light meals, snacks etc when feeling too chilled to take the car or walk into town. Special mention to Barbara who looked after us, preparing splendid breakfasts and providing local knowledge. Can't recommend too highly.

Andrew, Sidmouth

Cynthia has created a super stylish and relaxing hideaway with views over vines and to cliffs beyond. This is a perfect place to come and unwind in high comfort, enjoy the house and pool, stroll into Cassis for some evening buzz and explore the Calanques just along the coast.

Patrick, Sawday's Inspector

A truly stylish place! Beautifully presented bedroom - more like a mini-apartment - where nothing has been forgotten. Glorious French gardens with tempting places to sit, a relaxing pool, beautiful breakfast under the teees and charming hosts. Can't wait to go back!

Josephine, London

This is a truly fantastic place. Charming hostess and staff, lovely and kind welcome, beautiful, luxurious rooms but in a quiet sort of way - life moves slowly here, it felt like being in a little oasis of calm (save for the crickets and the frogs). The grounds and pool area were just perfect, there was so much attention to detail (down to the bottle of rosé in the fridge, which is i.a. made of grapes grown on the premises). The countryside is beautiful for hiking and Maison9 is well situated to explore the Calanques on foot. Coming from Marseille, take the train to Cassis, then call a taxi

Location

The neighbourhood

You're on the edge of a cluster of houses and close to town but you'll feel very private behind hedges and mature trees. Beautiful Cassis is a wonderful example of a quaint Provencal fishing village with its coloured houses lining the harbour - hop on a sightseeing boat to see it all from the water, or take a picnic to a pebble beach. Head to the Calanques for hidden coves and rocky cliffs. The Calanques National Park surrounds you for glorious walks and wildlife too.
