The Experience

Emerging from glorious countryside, the sight of low-slung seating, colourful cushions and a garden full of flowers and fruit trees is an inviting introduction to a superbly stylish villa. And outdoors, by the fantastic pool, is where you’ll want to remain – in tranquillity, after a swim and a barbecue. Then pad back up terraces to gîte or studio, each classy and open-plan, mixing vivid Provençal colours with cool stone walls and immaculate tiles; rooms are airy and bathrooms, in wood or stone, are thoroughly luxurious. Children will love climbing the ladder to their mezzanine bedroom; they can stroke the friendly chickens and collect eggs too! The kitchens are equipped with all that a chef needs after a day exploring the Côte d’Azur; the gardens have lots of little places to eat and sit – stone tables and recesses for an apéro, dinner, card games – and are beautifully illuminated at night. This villa is imbued with the grace and impeccable taste of Carole and Max; so fine was his handiwork on the reproduction stone it resembles the craftsmanship of medieval Saint-Jeannet, a 15-minute stroll.

We had a magnificent time at Villa l'Escalinado staying in the pool house and studio with a family of 5 (with Granny in tow). It had everything you need for a relaxing stay with the various terraces, nooks and crannies providing ample space to relax without being on top of eachother. We explored the gorgeous villages nearby and ventured to the beaches and seaside towns of the Côte d’Azur, whilst also spending time by the pool. The kids loved it, we loved it and we wished we stayed longer. Carole is a brilliant host; attentive, communicative but yet offers you privacy to enjoy your stay.

Two glorious weeks at Villa l’Escalinado. The Pool House was ideal for three adults. Fully equipped, incl air con. Carole and Max are perfect hosts - couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. Carole’s English is excellent. The pool is fab. Long enough to swim and deep enough to dive. Peaceful with loads of space and trees which offer some shade. One bit of the village is a less than a mile walk and has a boulangerie, supermarket, bars and restaurants. The old village is perched on the side of the mountain, a 30 min beautiful walk along back streets. The views are worth it. Can't wait to return.

We had a really lovely stay at the beautiful poolhouse. Carole gave us a warm welcome and she gave us all the help we needed but also all the privacy we wanted. The swimming pool was everything we could have hoped for with the kids, they didn't want to go anywhere else anymore. So we had a great time in the beautiful private garden and pool. The location is perfect for day trips, very close to Nice and other nice beaches, and Saint Paul de Vence with its beautiful museum. So to make things short....Thumbs up for this house!

We have stayed in many places in the South of France but this surpassed them all! We relaxed in a way we haven't for a long time on holiday. For us, it was the privacy and standards worthy of a first class hotel. From the beautifully equipped pool house, with spa like bathroom (which the owners use for their extended family, so you feel like family, not just a paying guest), to the quiet breakfasts on one of the many fabulous terraces, amongst gardens worthy of a place in the Chelsea Flower Show. Bliss! Close enough to Italy and the delights of the Riviera but without all the hassle.

We spent a wonderful week in the studio apartment at Villa L'Escalinado - the accommodation was all that we could wish for (especially our private terrace with amazing views over the stunning gardens) and we received a very warm and helpful welcome from Carole. We also made good use of the beautiful swimming pool and particularly enjoyed the Villa's proximity to the charming village of Saint-Jeannet, which is quiet and peaceful and well hidden away from the bustle of Nice. Given the standard of the accommodation and the surroundings, we thought this extremely good value for money.

We spent 8 days in paradise. This estate is so wonderful that you don't feel like leaving it , not even to visit the surrounding area which is indeed very beautiful. We stayed in the pool house which is very spacious and clean. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything one might need for short or long stays. The garden is big and full of flowers, the ideal place to enjoy a drink or a read. The pool is awesome and the water was warm enough for swimming even in May. Carole and her husband are excellent hosts, very communicative, but discreet at the same time. That's really the place to be!

My husband and two grown daughters stayed at Lescalinado for two perfect weeks. The villa and the studio are beautiful and the holiday was extremely relaxing. The pool is amazing and the facilities including barbecue area are excellent. Carole is a wonderful host as is Helene who looks after the grounds and property. The villa is set amongst tall trees and the sound of the birds whilst swimming in the pool was lovely. St Jeannet is pretty as are the lovely villages in the surrounding area. A most beautiful part of France and we would highly recommend this holiday property

Accessed via meandering stone steps, we stayed in the Pool House with our 7 year old son who was thrilled with the mezzanine (although this probably wouldn't be suitable for younger children). The house has all the accessories you could need, however, a shower would have been a benefit for us, rather than the bath with a shower handset. The garden and pool are beautiful, extremely private and wonderfully scented, with the added spectacle of fireflies at night. It must be borne in mind that the pool is not heated should you stay outside the height of summer. A great base from which to explore.

We stayed in the poolside house with our 2 sons aged 4 and 7. We thoroughly enjoyed the property and its fantastic amenities. Carole was an excellent host, very warm and welcoming, with lots of advice whenever we needed it. The house is lovely, spacious and very comfortable. The garden was beautiful with lots of shady areas provided. We spent most of our time in the pool which is wonderfully clean and safe. St. Jeannet is a beautiful village, lots of other beautiful places to see in the surrounding area. My sons have fond memories of Villa L'Escallinado and are very keen for a repeat stay!

My family of four had a really lovely stay at Villa I'Escalinado for one week. We were in the pool house which was well very equipped and confortable. The main draw has to be the HUGE pool we which we had to ourselves, The website photos don't do it justice. as it's much bigger than I imagined, really deep and perfect for diving. Carole was warm and friendly and helpfully advised us on local places to eat and visit. Really perfect spot for a relaxing holiday whilst being close to local shops and the all the sights of the Monaco, Nice and villages of Provence. Thank you!

Helena

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Studio, which is delightful and quite spacious for 2. The balcony looks out over the hillside garden, dotted with oak trees, which has numerous different spaces for relaxing in including pool and petanque terrain. Carole was very helpful and friendly, and we would come again. The lovely village of St Jeannet has plenty of restaurants and fantastic views and is within walking distance. Recommended.

Oliver

We stayed in the pool side gite which was nicely furnished with a well equipped kitchen. The bathroom was beautiful and a great place to relax . The outside area is superb with a fantastic large swimming pool, numerous seating and eating areas and a great barbeque .The gite is well situated for sightseeing and visiting the beach .There are a couple of supermarkets and a local bakers and butchers within 5 minutes by car. Carole made us feel very welcome and was very helpful .

The Studio is beautifully designed, spotless and excellently equipped. The double bed is very comfortable. although needs larger bed linen. You could spend your life in the bathroom which is a joy! The balcony faces south so there is plenty of sun and dappled shade throughout the day. The balcony view is of the pool two terraces down in the beautiful garden. The pool is an excellent size with small diving board. Carole Bernardi made us very welcome. Highly recommended.
