Les Rabauds

Saint-Pierre-de-Maillé, Vienne

Delightful hamlet of three ancient farmhouses surrounded by fields, forest, deer and birdsong. Romantic hideaway: pretty rooms, heated pool

2 places

Sleeping from 2 – 5

Monsieur Chauche, who works with national heritage, knows what he’s doing. He has restored his pretty hamlet of three houses with immense sympathy and beauty. Two of the houses are for guests, with oodles of original features, lovely antiques and packed with charm. Sitting rooms are cosy and prettily decorated with antique floor tiles. Bedrooms are delightful (ground floor in one), softly coloured and comfortable. Bathrooms have showers. Cosy down with a book in your private, ‘natural’ garden, the only sound bird song or breeze in the trees, or take a swim in the warm pool with its open country views. Daniel and Marina are charming, live on site and will be pleased to share their vast knowledge of history, architecture and the wildlife of the area. Surrounded by fields, ancient woodland and with Le Brenne Natural Park close by, this is the perfect spot for families, rambling and bird watching. There are shops and restaurants nearby (4kms), an excellent ‘traiteur’ (10kms), or fire up the barbeque and take a sip while the sun sets. You may catch a glimpse of a grazing deer – this is a nature lover’s idyll.

Absolutely loved it. The sympathy of the restoration was particularly impressive. You could almost be on a film set such is the quality of the work and attention to detail. The cottage was so cool and welcoming a refuge from the heat of the sun that it was almost a pity to step outside. There is a photo opportunity around every corner in this unique hamlet of medieval buildings with their simple, natural gardens. Sorry should have mentioned that the dogs loved it as well, and that the pool was perfect. There are lovely towns locally and lots to do, Daniel and Marina are the best hosts ever.

Simon, Shrewsbury

Lots of peace and tranquility, lovely area, lots of beautiful places to visit. Marina and Daniel are very welcoming and gave lots of valuable information about the area and places of interest to visit. GIte was lovely and well equipped, would recommend a stay.

Karen, Barton upon humber

This was our second visit. The whole place is charming. Very well equipped. Daniel and Marina are superb hosts. They have renovated this hamlet sensitively to reflect the history.
