The
Experience

The approach to Bois Bourdet is along quiet country lanes surrounded by fields; then you enter a small gate to find friendly chickens heading your way to see what’s going on.  There’s a lovely feeling to this old-new place: the beautifully renovated farmhouse where the young family run B&B; the front grounds well-kept and spacious; the rear grounds full of hidden treasures (vegetable gardens, orchard, play areas, pool); and the two renovated barns, La Petite Maison and La Bergerie. The gazebo is an idyllic spot to sit with an early evening aperitif, the pool is fenced for safety and surrounded by greenery, and you can help yourself to the garden’s bounty whenever you like. La Bergerie (the old sheep pen) is open plan, ideal for a family and steeped in character, with beautiful stone walls, high ceilings, oak rafters, scarlet sofas, a wood-burner: a charming contemporary décor. La Petite Maison, for a couple with a small child, is fresh, modern, adorable. Kitchens are wonderfully equipped, there are barbecues on terraces, and if you fancy a night off, join the B&B-ers: Monsieur is a marvellous chef.

Fantastic Accommodation in a beautiful surroundings lovely just to chill out and let the world pass you by and just as great if you want to explore the surrounding area such as the beautiful costal areas and the venice of France then come back and chill by the pool. Fantastic hospitality from both Xavier and Stephane nothing was to much trouble and again thank you both for a fantastic holiday

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Xavier & Stéphanie Trouillet

  • The Deux Sèvres is just 65 kilometers from the Atlantic coast and enjoys 2600 sunshine hours a year- second only to the French Mediterranean Coast, but with a verdant landscape to enjoy too.
  • There are daily traditional village markets nearby selling fantastic fresh produce. We are well placed between the wine regions of Loire and Bordeaux and have an array of great wine to sample, not forgetting our local aperitif, Pineau des Charentes.
  • An hour's drive from Bois Bourdet you'll find La Rochelle, with its many quayside restaurants and old harbour. It's a great town to shop in, strolling through its network of pedestrian streets, or just enjoy its cultural and architectural heritage.
  • Ile de Ré :Lying just offshore from La Rochelle, Ile de Ré is truly enchanting. Rows of pretty white cottages with coloured shutters line narrow streets filled with colourful hollyhocks.
  • Cognac, the world-famous home if its namesake brandy. Enjoy a fascinating tour of one of the many leading producers based here (Hennessy, Martel, Courvoisier, Rémy Martin to name a few).
  • Marais Poitevin : Whatever the season the Marais Poitevin always has something to enjoy. Pretty marsh villages, with quayside restaurants and cafes, nature trails, boating and more. The maze of tree lined waterways are a heaven for birds and wildlife.
