Behind its modest, wisteria-covered mask, this 17th-century former wine-grower’s house hides a charming interior – and a magnificent garden that flows through orchard to topiary, a delight in every season. Soft duck-egg colours and rich trimmings make this a warm and safe haven, light airy bedrooms are immaculate and unpretentious (one with its original stone sink, another with a pretty French pink décor), the bathrooms are luxurious, the walls burst with art and the welcome is gracious, warm and friendly. Superb value with goods restaurants a few miles away. It’s a treat to stay here.

Great countryside location for exploring this area. Madame Jacques loves to show you around her beautiful colourful garden, ideal place for relaxing with a good book after your days out exploring. The 'salle de picnic' is great, equipped with a fridge & microwave and crockery for you to use, tables & chairs, great place to hang out if its too hot or even too cold outside.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Marie-Therese. A delightful room, a wonderfully spacious bathroom and delicious breakfasts. Our host was keen to help in any way possible from drying our wet clothes to chilling wine in the fridge. There was so much to see and do in the area that three days simply weren't enough!

A delightful place to stay. MarieTherese gave us a warm welcome and a delicious dinner in her traditional home with a very peaceful garden. The accommodation is spotlessly clean and most importantly the bed is extremely comfortable. I wish we could have stayed longer, we stayed one night to break our journey to the SW and were so impressed, we stayed again our our way back!

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Marie-Thérèse Jacques

  • Characterful house renovated in the style of a Charente, stone cottage. The landscaped garden is of great interest to the English, they like to stay, relax, drink in the shade of trees, paint, take photos.
  • On the way to Santiago de Compostela, the pilgrims are welcomed here, in memory of a room of the house. On his door you can read "Pax huic domui" (peace in this house).
  • In the garden, a carved stone is the evidence of the presence of the vineyard on the property: stone cooling water distillation.
  • The interior is faithful to the tradition of a Charentais interior (furniture, fabrics, amenities) having added modern comfort.
  • The orchard produces fruits which are used for the morning jams.
  • There is a covered barn where you can spend time or even dine when the weather is bad.
