Drawn to the vibrant music and film scene around La Rochelle your hosts set up home here and built a traditional looking Charantaise Longère. Encircled by a pretty garden this shuttered white lime house exudes a welcoming air, as do Maris and Marie. They feed you well on breakfasts laden with breads and pastries, homemade pancakes and fresh fruit, served outside or in the light sitting/dining room, which has garden views and Maris’ artwork on the walls. Upstairs both en suite bedrooms are peaceful with beds dressed in embroidered antique linen. Visit La Rochelle, Ile de Ré, or hop on a borrowed bike and pootle round the village.
