Le Macassar is named after the rare ebony used in the drawing room panelling – one exquisite example among so many others. This gem of a house has 15th-century foundations but was restyled in the Twenties and Thirties to please a pretty young wife. There’s much to admire wherever you gaze and plenty of space to spread out – wherever you choose to sit you can be served tea and scones or champagne and hors d’oeuvres.
Bedrooms are spacious, beautifully arranged and with a very private feel. Wake to generous breakfasts served around a convivial dining table on pretty porcelain; poached eggs on toast with avocado and smoked salmon, brioche with warm berry compote and Canadian maple syrup. Deborah is a superb cook and serves dinner on Sunday evenings from locally-sourced and often organic ingredients.
You can walk to shops and restaurants, explore the ancient abbey, follow the river through miles of woodland and pasture. The Val de Somme battlefields surround you and Amiens with its Notre Dame Cathedral is a short drive through rolling hills, rivers and lakes. Return to sit in the garden with its fountain and comfortable chairs.
Just wonderful - the welcome, the room, the decor, the breakfast, the garden and above all the hosts Debbie and Gordon. Lovely people, good company and supplied us with some really great wine and champagne. Debbie provided transport for us to one of the local restaurants in the next village and also arranged bookings within walking distance. Loved our stay and will be returning.
