Genuine country hospitality and warmth are yours in the big old house. Madame is kindly and direct; Monsieur is the communicator (mainly in French), knows his local history and loves the hunting horn. His 300-year-old family house is cosily unposh: floral curtains, French-papered walls, original wainscotting, funny old prints in bedrooms, comforting clutter in the vast living room, posters in the corridors. The master bedroom is superb, others are simple and fine; one has a ship’s shower room, all look onto green pastures. And there’s a pretty lake for picnics across the narrow road.

Wonderful big old farmhouse owned by a very chatty, elderly couple who make you very welcome and yet are quite blunt at the same time. We ate, in house, and then asked Madame if it was alright if we stayed around the table and read the papers and read and did the crossword and she said "Non - ce n'est pas d'accord - we have put the heating on in your bedroom - you can go there" Can't say fairer than that! I would definitely go back again . . . . .

We love old family homes like this, once no doubt very grand but now comfortable and homely. Our room was large, light and airy with a lovely view to the lake, where we saw heron. The owners were charming and helpful. Nearby Laôn is small but attractive. Definitely a place to remember on a future trip!

The site description says it all. A privilidge to stay in such a charming house and with warm-hearted hosts. Excellent dinner and breakfast.

Second time we have visited Le Clos. Delightfully simple but comfortable rooms with mine hosts superbly welcoming. Will be back next year.

For our first two nights in France on this trip Le Clos was an ideal intro to rural france. Our son, wife and six years old Jules joined us from Paris for a reunion. Ideal host and hostess
