The drive curves through paddocks and pillared gates to this serene 18th-century mansion. The forest behind may ring with the stag’s call, the heads and hooves of his kin line the grand staircase. The fine classic French interior is peacefully formal: a gorgeous primrose-yellow dining room with an oval mahogany table for breakfast feasts, a collection-filled drawing room, a beautiful first-floor bedroom with the right curly antiques and pink Jouy draperies. Michelle cherishes her mansion and resembles it: gentle, attentive, courteous. Giverny is near, Rouen and heaps of lovely restaurants are ten minutes away.

Your review was "spot on" I could not have described Michelle and the Manior better. After staying on our first visit in 2011 my husband and I returned each year until 2014 when he passed away after a short illness. This year I travelled with my niece and partner to visit Michell again and will continue to do so in the future. Can't recommend highly enough, Michelle is a superb hostess.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Michelle Desrez

  • Monet's house and gardens at Giverny are perfect for a day's excursion as is the pretty little town and port of Honfleur, a favourite of artists amateur and professional.
  • Visits to nearby romanesque abbeys - Jumièges, Boscherville, Fontenelle, Bonport and, of course, Saint Ouen in Rouen itself - bring a change of mood and a sense, however tenuous, of another millenium and another way of life.
  • The famous cliffs and rocks of Etretat and Fécamp are ever-stunning and Fécamp is where the famous Benedictine liqueur is still made.
  • Running, walking and cycling in the forest are immediately accessible pleasures while the towpath along the River Seine is a glorious place to walk.
  • Private parking available.
