The elegant black door hides a little house of treasures, curios, art and character, an easy walk (25 minutes) from the centre of Rouen. Dominique, full of energy and enthusiasm, has a flair for decoration – as her paintings, coverings and light, bright furniture declares. Oriental rugs on parquet floors, French windows to balcony and garden, bedrooms brimful of interest. Nothing standard, nothing too studied, a very personal home and leisurely breakfasts promising heavenly surprises. The house’s hillside position in this residential area is equally special. Great value, great views.

Wonderful friendly welcome from Dominique, a fount of helpful advice who also kindly let us park in her garage. Lovely, tastefully decorated house with fine views over towards the city - a 20 minute walk or short 'bus ride away. Excellent & beautifully presented continental breakfast.

A wonderful first night in France, Dominique was very kind and helpful even offering us her own garage for parking though in the event it was easy to find a place on the street - a nice walk down to Rouen itself without any parking problems. Her house is lovely, polished floors, rugs and art everywhere with a little garden at the back. The bedroom was comfortable with a good bathroom and an amazing view down over les toits de rouen, tea making facilities much appreciated also and an amazing breakfast of juice, coffee, cakes, delicious breads and jams the next morning

We stayed 3 nights, and definitely would recommend this beautiful place to others who are planning to visit this area. Though it's a bit of a walk to city centre of Rouen, but it's worth. Loving care has been put on the house and the rooms, and the personalized touches....Good quality breakfast with home made jams and cakes, fresh tea & coffees....everything is beautifully prepared with eyes to details. Dominique is helpful but discreet in same time....

We have just returned from our 2nd visit. Dominique is very helpful with good advice on where to visit and eat. The house lovely. As for the breakfast, it is the best we have had in France. Well worth a visit.

This place was amazing. Unassuming from the outside but such a surprise through the door. Don't go if you like minimalism as there is a lot of art to appreciate. Dominique was so welcoming and helpful and the best thing was the breakfast, beautifully presented and individual. The view was great from the windows too. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't eat outside on the terrace because of the rain. We will definitely go back.

Once found great welcome made to feel like friends from the start. The best continental breakfast we have had. Will certainly put it on our schedule when visiting France.

What a find! From the outside we were rather unsure what we would find inside, having driven uphill along narrow streets, but from the moment she opened the door Dominique was extremely welcoming to her home. Our room on the second floor had the most amazing view over Rouen. We describe the house as quirky and full of interesting antiques and 'knick-knacks', we had a very comfortable bed with lovely crisp, white bed linen. The continental breakfast, taken outside on the balcony, was absolutely wonderful, such care had been taken over the food and its presentation. We would happily return.

Local points of interest from Dominique Gogny

  • Culture seekers can explore the magnificent cathedral immortalised by Monet which he painted (in comfort) from a corsetry shop opposite.
  • Saunter through the winding cobbled streets of the old town with its many bars and restaurants and discover the extensive Sunday market of antiques, bric-a-brac and bibelots.
  • Walkers can ramble along the Seine taking in the ruined abbey of Jumièges.
  • Should rain strike, there is the atmospheric Natural History Museum with its century-old glass cases, as well as the Ceramic Museum and the Beaux Arts.
  • Further afield, an hour or so away, Varengeville offers sandy beaches, seafood restaurants and the sumptuous gardens of Le Bois de Moutier designed by the famous Gertrude Jeckyll.
  • In Summer the river banks of the Seine offer Rouen-Plage with all its sunseekers’ entertainments.
