Madeleine loves her wines (she was in the trade) and is energetic, vivacious, and welcomes you generously at her ‘maison bourgeoise’ on the edge of a château village. Set back from the road behind fence and clipped hedge are three cosy classically furnished bedrooms: books and fresh flowers, immaculate duvets, smart French furniture, a calvados nightcap on the landing. Shower rooms are small and beautifully tiled. There’s a conservatory for breakfast, a front room for relaxing and, at a table dressed with silver, French dinners are served. Dieppe, Rouen, Honfleur: all are wonderfully close.
