Peaceful narrow lanes between high banks and hedges bring you to Les Sources. Hydrangeas and old-fashioned roses surround the early 19th-century longère – restored, traditionally furnished and nicely equipped by Roger and Sandra. They used to own an award-winning hotel and restaurant in Wales so the kitchen brims over with every culinary aid you could want, from Le Creuset pots to seafood pans. Rooms are beamed, spotless and comfortable; in winter, curl up with books, games, puzzles before a crackling fire – logs are provided for the big granite fireplace. Open-tread stairs (with safety gate) lead to three carpeted bedrooms with sloping ceilings, roof windows, coordinated bedding, bedside lamps and pictures. The bathroom is on the ground floor. Such a lovely setting – nearly an acre of lawns, trees and shrubs and a stream to one side. There’s a herb garden, too, and an orchard full of rich fruit-bearing trees. All around are fields and the sea is less than two miles, with deserted sandy beaches and a view of Jersey.
