Madame’s welcome is as cheerful and bright as her bedrooms – and she loves to cook. The Gavards’ immaculate 1980s house, resting in one pretty acre (lawns, roses, little footbridge over the pond) is the perfect stopover: near the autoroute yet truly tranquil. Borrow bikes and cycle the ‘voie verte’ to Mont St Michel or spend the day in St Malo. Then come home to friendly table d’hôtes and a great-value menu that reflects the seasons. There’s a guest sitting room to retire to, with guide books, games, TV; and bedrooms are under the eaves, warm, simple, characterful, with brand new beds and flowers. Bathrooms gleam.
