Originally a private chapel, the building was later converted to a hunting lodge and gardener’s cottage. It is now a beautiful, family holiday home, snuggled next to a gorgeous château where the owners do B&B. Its 27 acres of sweeping grounds demand a game of croquet or pétanque, and the wildlife that surrounds is terrific for children. Inside, all is airy and spacious; bedrooms are comfortable, contemporary and uncluttered. Floral country fabrics and shiny bathrooms give your gîte a fresh, light feel, while the large kitchen – the hub of the house – runs the depth of the building and is a great place for a family supper. On sunny days you can barbecue; a stack of garden furniture is provided. Be sure to stock up on provisions beforehand, though – the nearest shop is 4km away. And when you’ve finished exploring the grounds, walking in the beautiful countryside or trekking on horseback, a stack of logs sits cozily by the fireplace ready for your return. The friendly owners are just a step away, but you have both privacy and the freedom to wander and roam as you please.
