The
Experience
In a small hamlet surrounded by 600 acres of land is a farmhouse where Sophie and her children live, and a four-square brick mansion for the guests. You’ll find a breakfast room, sitting room and TV room downstairs, and five bedrooms up, with choice fabrics, period furniture and fine new bathrooms. Breakfast is served on antique tablecloths and white china, and elegant wallpapers and north African rugs are scattered throughout. All feels polished, pleasing, and hospitable. Say hello to the horses, borrow the bikes, visit Richard the Lionheart’s Château Gaillard; it’s one of many historic sites.

This is a superb house that has been sympathetically restored. Sophie is a first rate hostess and looked after all our needs. If you need a fantastic place to stay near to Giverny and Rouen; look no further.

Sophie was a delightful host and served us tea in the 'salon' on our arrival. The house has plenty of period features, but the ultra - modern bathrooms are not one of them! We appreciated the crisp linen, fluffy towels and masses of hot water from the fantastic shower.Sophie is friendly and interested in guests and where they come from and put out a tea tray for us, after we had dinner in Les Anderlays. We visited the ruined castle of Richard the Lionheart and regretted that we only had one night there before catching the ferry. Just 10 minutes from the town, Sophie's house is ideal as a base.

Sophie was a lovely host, providing tea and cake on our arrival. Our bedroom was lovely, as were all the rooms in this maison de maitre, with views over the garden. A fantastic shower room was straight out of a magazine and the bed was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit and homemade jam. Unfortunately, we left clothes in the wardrobe, in our rush to get to the ferry in time, but Sophie sent them to us, beautifully packed. A lovely place to stay.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Sophie Hamot
- Between two famous historic sites, Château-Gaillard and Gisors, come and have a break in our peaceful mansion : you'll discover our farmbuildings dating from the 18th and 19th century, our beautiful pigeon house, and the remains of a 11th century chapel
- Come to La Bucaille and have a look at our feudal mound : remains of a wooden castle from the 11th century surrounded by its impressive moats ... you may discover the treasure generations of children have been looking for
- You're just a few minutes drive from Giverny and its beautiful gardens, its American Museum of Art : enjoy Claude Monet's peaceful water garden and its famous Japanese bridge covered with wisterias
- Do you like gardens ? There are plenty of them in the vicinity : the Jardin Plume, where rustic charm meets French formality ; Beaumesnil, Bizy or Heudicourt, aristocratic gardens surrounding stunning castles ; educational gardens like Moulin Amour ...
- If you miss the liveliness of the cities, you're only an hour away from Paris, or less than an hour from Rouen ; there is also so much to enjoy in the amazing beach towns of Deauville or Honfleur !

Charming hostess, gorgeous house, lovely dog and a real find. There is nothing not to like about this bed & breakfast except that the stay went too quickly. Definitely one to return to with a really good restaurant just 20 mins away in Gasny too. Try this super place out and see just how right I am!
