Villa d’Eaux

Villers-sur-Mer, Calvados

A lovely, listed former bathhouse just minutes from the sea with masses of space for big groups, a jacuzzi and hotel-style comfort

6 beds

6 bedrooms

Sleeps 11

You’re right in town in a row of arty terraced houses sheltered from the brisk breeze. Step inside to find a luxurious, hotel-inspired vibe with a 24/7 concierge on site for arrivals and departures and all sorts of extras: big piles of pillows and towels, shower products and goodies for guests (pencils, note pads, scented candles…) branded with the Villa d’Eaux logo.

Four of the bedrooms open onto an amazing glass-roofed patio, the two attic rooms have sea views and there are enough sitting rooms to fill a castle. The little rooftop terrace is a pleasant place to bring up your bottle of wine and sip the afternoon away – it faces due west for stunning sunsets over quaint roofs and the sea.

Wander round the nearby market, amble over the road to the sandy beach, hire bikes, book a horse ride, visit the Paleospace museum. Charming Honfleur is a 35-minute drive and you can enjoy the beaches at Deauville on your way back for dinner – you’ll find all you need in the fully-fitted professional kitchen to cook for a large party.

The neighbourhood

Villers-sur-Mer is a charming resort just two hours from Paris, halfway between Caen and Le Havre (great if you’re catching the ferry). At one end of town there are 20th-century villas, and at the other a collection of contemporary holiday homes; wherever you walk to you’re never far from the sea. Villers has a colourful market, a museum of fossils - and a beach where you can easily hunt for them - and is a short drive from rural Normandy and its excellent cheese and Calvados. It’s a two-minute walk down the street to a brasserie with snacks and excellent mussels; gourmet food on the seafront is a 15-minute stroll.

Local points of interest from Valerie Carrat

  • Villa d'Eaux is well located between Deauville and Cabourg/Houlgate. Many famous movie festivals are organized between the end of August and beginning of October: such as the American movie festival in Deauville and European movie festival in Houlgate.
  • If you have a real interest for the History of the World Wars, you can visit Caen's memorial and take the time to go to the landing beaches (Ouistreham, Arromanche, St LO...)
  • If you prefer slow tourism, you are at the right place: you have free access to the Water Bar, the Tea House and the spa. You can also decide to read or meditate or dream in the peaceful patio or on the rooftop with sea and sunset view.
  • You wish to discover the region by side car, old car or bike, visit a cider factory, horse ride on the beach, or any other dream, we'll organise for you. Just ask.
  • For a while may feel you would like to test a "detox" stay to feel better in your body and mind. We propose at the beginning of November a week end detox for 10 persons max all inclusive. You'll discover how to cook and drink fruits and vegetables juice..

Valerie Carrat

Valerie escaped the bustle of Paris for a quieter life on the coast in Villers-sur-Mer, leaving behind a stressful career in medicine and her grown up children. She hopes you too will fall in love with her little patch of heaven, where she aims to provide a place to completely zone out and relax.
