The
Experience

This lovely couple are kindness itself, she softly spoken and twinkling, he jovial, talkative, utterly French. Having retired from farming, they moved into the heart of Bayeux. You can glimpse the cathedral spires from their house, once part of the old bishop’s palace. Beyond the gates and the wisteria, the door opens to a lofty beamed living room rejoicing in good antiques and a monumental fireplace; through another is the kitchen. Up the ancient stone stairs are pretty bedrooms – immaculate bedding, pastel-tiled showers – that look quietly over a pocket-handkerchief garden. Delicious breakfasts, history all around, and no need for a car.

Reviews

The Fauvels are like everyone's favourite grandparents - lovely and welcoming (even when we arrived late from a delayed evening ferry). The family room was warm despite the cold outside in December, and it's so quiet - we slept well in comfortable beds. It's all simple and a touch old-fashioned, but really good value for such a brilliant location in the middle of Bayeux. We'll be back next time we need a stopover on the way to or from the ferry, or a longer stay for more Normandy exploring.

A wonderful place to stay in the heart of Bayeux and great value for such a central location. Beautiful old stone house with winding staircases, stained glass windows, wonderful wooden doors - very atmospheric. Our room was plain but nicely decorated, very comfortable, sunny and quiet with two windows looking out over the lovely little garden. Breakfast in a huge, light stone-walled room was simple but delicious. Hosts don't speak much English so we tried out our limited French and got by with laughter all round. Highly recommended.

This is a gem, situated in the heart of Bayeux our delightful hosts have beautifully restored this old building within easy walking of Bayeux tapestry and a splendid restaurant La Rapiere within 150 yards. If you want to explore Bayeux we don't believe we could have done better. They also have the great advantage of gated off street parking, much appreciated when travelling with a loaded car. Definitely a"tick and return"for us.

Penelope, Leicester

What a beautiful house! Lovingly restored, we admired the stone spiral staircase up to our room. M. et Madame were very welcoming and we were pleased we could park our car securely. Les Glycines is ideally situated - we were able to walk everywhere - to the Tapestry, the Cathedral and other places. Our breakfast was delicious - home made jams and croissants/bread and as much coffee as we liked. Our room was very comfortable with crisp white cotton bed linen. A very good recommendation.

Moira, Derby

As described. Very conveniently placed. We arrived very late and the owners were kindness itself. Clean, simple room. Beautiful house. Language barrier was high! They speak very little English and our French was minimal.

Christopher, Newbury

Charming accommodations and hosts. Guest rooms have a very nice separate entrance. The hosts generously allowed us to park in their gated entry. Delicious homemade jams with breakfast. Just steps from the city's busy walking street, but the bedrooms face the garden and are blissfully quiet. Spotlessly clean with comfortable beds. A great place to center an exploration of Normandy.
