The
Experience

A trendy pad in a courtyard bang in the middle of lovely old Honfleur. The bustling cobbled streets lined with shops, restaurants and galleries are yards away – you’re two minutes’ walk from the car park; close to the charming port and beach. Behind the red door of the traditional timbered colombage building a wide wooden staircase, worn smooth by countless climbs, leads three floors up to this smart single floor apartment. Designed and decorated by Isabelle – who speaks perfect English and is very friendly and helpful – The Appart has a fabulous, double height open plan living area, terracotta tiled and with five large windows down one side that flood it with light. Ancient beams and studwork, painted light grey, frame the modern corner sofas and high dining table with views over rooftops to the port. And at the far end the really well-equipped kitchen (espresso machine, La Cornue cooker) has a sociable counter/breakfast bar. Cosy bedrooms have good beds and share a bathroom and separate loo. Come for a short break or longer to explore Deauville, Falaise and Lisieux – visit fromageries, taste ciders and calvados…

Location

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Isabelle Mountain

  • A former storage place for tobacco leaves in the 18th century, it has been transformed into a flat 10 years ago. The place Hamelin used to be a bustling area for merchants at the height of Honfleur's maritime activity.
  • The fountain in the courtyard was given by the town to the rich shipowner for his good services.
  • You are literally in the heart of the historic part of town, minutes from the harbour and the museums (Boudin and Maisons Satie), and you'll spoiled for choice with all the restaurants in the area.
  • Every Saturday, a food market takes place on Place Sainte-Catherine, just up the stairs at the end of the alley. Go for the local producers, even if they are not stamped "organic", you're more likely to get tasty veg & fruit, naturally grown.
  • In the morning, go to the harbour (le Vieux Bassin) and sit at one of the numerous cafés (my favorite is l'Albatros) and enjoy a nice breakfast or just coffee while watching the world go by.
  • You are a 15 mn walk from the beach. You can explore the park alongside the jetty - le jardin des personnalités.
