The
Experience
Head up, up to a hilltop farmhouse with panoramic views to the Pyrenees and a lovely family who’ve spent 12 years fixing up their eco-friendly home. It’s all hemp, lime, wood and terracotta, solar energy, a natural swimming ‘bassin’, horses, a donkey, a sand pit and a swing for your kids to share with theirs… such fun. Inside are two big, beamed guest rooms with country antiques, good beds and walk-in ochre showers. Sink into an easy chair by the wood-burner and browse books that reveal a passion for all things bio… as do family dinners with Italian-Swiss Stefano and Violaine from Bordeaux. Great value, too.

Stunning and peaceful. The place feels totally natural and the owners are lovely; they have worked hard to deliberately create an ecologically sustainable site, and the place is Ideal for people who share or are interested in those values and appreciate rustic charm. The views are sublime.

Our stay was even better than expected. Chaumarty is one of our favourite b&bs ever. Quiet location with wonderful views, relaxed atmosphere, a comfortable room, truly excellent food, very friendly welcome, great advice and interesting talks with the hostess. Imagine swimming in a pool, surrounded by water lilies. Too bad our schedule didn't allow us to stay longer.

We had a wonderful overnight stay. The setting was superb and the welcome extremely warm and friendly. The food was delicious, home made and all their own or very local produce. Breakfast could have lasted all day! The accommodation was spacious, attractively presented and very comfortable. A veritable paradise for the peaceful and ecologically minded.

We miss Chaumarty already! It is a place of natural beauty enhanced by Violaine and Stefano's warm, welcoming and happy nature. The environment and landscape is breathtaking and it just gets better and better with the fresh, wholesome food and blend of rustic and contemporary decor. It's so refreshing being somewhere that considers the environment and ecology - it's the way it should be and Violaine and Stefano and their helpful boys are great fun. The homemade elderflower cordial is delicious! We're so glad we found this special place.

We had an amazing stay at Chaumarty. Violaine and Stefano made us all feel so welcome. Their house is stylish, homely and immaculately clean. Violaine's cooking is superb and she easily handled our vegetarian and non-vegetarian requests. We particularly appreciated the organic and locally sourced food. And we all (including our 5 and 7 year old boys) loved the eco-pool with stunning scenery. Violaine and Stefano are very knowledgable about the local area and suggested some great day trips. We would definitely recommend this as a stylish and relaxing and homely place to stay.

- One of the jewels in France's south-westerly crown, Toulouse is located on the banks of the gently curving River Garonne. Tourists visiting Toulouse will enjoy the character and charm of the many historic buildings.
- It is definitely worth taking a look at Mirepoix a late thirteenth-century bastide built around one of the loveliest surviving arcaded market squares in the country.
- A magnificent work achieved in the 17th century by Pierre-Paul Riquet and diverted through Carcassonne in 1777-1798, the Canal du Midi has been included in the World Heritage List of U.N.E.S.C.O. since 1996.
- The cave of Mas-d'Azil is a large, 500 metre long tunnel dug by the Arize River through a wall of the Massif Plantaurelin, part of the Ariege Pyrenees.
- Chaumarty has recently been awarded a national award, the 'Coup de Coeur 2014' for the owners efforts in being environmentally-responsible and for their promotion of sustainible development and tourism.

We just loved this place - from its eco-credentials and comfortable interiors to the location on a high ridge with terrific views to the Pyrenees and the warmth of the welcome given us by Violaine. We particularly liked the natural swimming pool shared with fish and frogs. The meals supplied to us by Violaine were very good and she catered superbly for our vegetarian wishes. This is a lovely tranquil B&B that we would love to come back to some day.
