The
Experience

Louise couldn’t be kinder and there’s a mellow, bohemian feel to her former convent home. She’s carefully mixed finds from her global travels with antiques, brocante and modern pieces and the result is charming. Peaceful, comfortable bedrooms have practical showers and lovely valley views over the pretty village. Breakfast under the pergola, in the nooked and crannied garden, or in the sunny salon. And do arrange to have homemade dinner too. Wander down for a dip in the river, the dogs may come with you; visit Lautrec’s magical Château du Bosc, Albi  and Cordes; relax – to birdsong or to the crackling logs of a winter fire.

Reviews

Misty mornings, sunny afternoons and starry starry skies , another perfect week staying at Le Couvent in the gorgeous village of St Just sur Viaur. The garden room is so lovely its difficult to leave the house but jogging by the river, walking on the hills and exploring the locality all called. To return to aperitifs and a lovely home cooked meal made for a totally relaxing stay. Thank you Louise

We had a wonderful stay,Louise was a fantastic host very kind and full of local knowledge and suggestions for walks, activities and sightseeing. The property is beautiful with amazing views from the garden room and our bedroom was very comfortable. Louise is a great cook and we enjoyed lots of locally sourced delicious dishes and good wine. We were very taken with Charlie and Bo who were well behaved canine friends, the hens were very entertaining too! We would thoroughly recommend you visit Le Couvent - it really is a gem!

Le Couvent offers peace, tranquility and the perfect relaxing holiday in the most gloriously picturesque French village. Louise is the perfect host providing copious quantities of excellent food, wine and excellent company. The house is an amazing place to stay with each room having its own unique character. The garden room is amazing offering wonderful views of the valley whilst you dine or relax in the easy chairs. Highly recommended for travellers who like somewhere a bit different with stunning scenery.

Le Couvent is a lovely, quirky house in a beautiful part of France and Louise couldn't have been kinder or more hospitable during our visit. We stayed two nights to break a long journey and it was just what we needed but we would happily have stayed longer and will certainly go back if we are heading that way again. As we have two small children we ate in both nights and the dinners Louise cooked for us were delicious too. Thoroughly recommended.

Gorgeous location, wonderful quirky arty house with an amazing ambience. Louise made my daughter and I really welcome and was a superb hits. Loved staying there and have just booked to come agin, twice, in 2017

Our second visit! It was great to see the finished Garden room. What a wonderful addition . Louise was her welcoming self and everything matched our expectations. Whilst we don't do chambres d'hôtes, she will stay overnight with us soon, to see our own small paradise. A new friend, thanks to Sawdays. We thoroughly recommend the Old Convent School.

Caroline, Dondas

Gorgeous view, tasty cuisine, friendly dogs AND very sociable and simple maîtresse de maison. We loved everything

What a find! …warm welcome, comfortable accommodation, inventive & delicious suppers, peaceful and varied environs… this was just what we needed and Louise did everything to make us feel completely at home. We can thoroughly recommend this excellent addition to the Sawday website.

Local points of interest from Louise Flynn

  • 30 minutes from Albi. An old convent school perched on the side of a beautiful valley above a small hamlet and river, Le Couvent is the best of both worlds – feels like the middle of nowhere but is so close to the wonderful world heritage town of Albi.
  • If you love medieval then Albi, one of France’s most attractive medieval towns, is for you. Smaller but also perfectly formed, the villages of Cordes-sur-Ciel, Sauveterre du Rouergue and Conques are well worth a visit.
  • Get to know the real Toulouse Lautrec by visiting the family’s summer home only 5 minutes drive away. Like modern art? Then a visit to the new Soulages Art Gallery in Rodez is a must.
  • Walkers adore this area with its varied countryside, wonderful wildlife, fabulous views and historic interest. Stay around St Just and walk up hill and down dale following the excellent signposting of easy, moderate or more challenging walks.
  • Go wild swimming or just paddle in the lovely Viaur river spotting Kingfishers and Little Egrets and listening to the Golden Orioles. In season, go foraging for Cepe, Girolle, Morel mushrooms or pick wild asparagus, blackberries, apples and cherries.
  • Dog friendly! Charlie and Beau (very friendly Leonberger-cross and Collie) are keen to welcome your well-behaved and sociable doggie companions and love to show off their favourite walks.
