Château de Nanteuil

Huisseau sur Cosson, Loir-et-Cher
Bed & Breakfast

Rooms are unabashedly old fashioned, the host is refreshingly laid back and he cares about food - local, seasonal, organic. Loved by most

4 rooms

Rooms sleep 2 – 4

Revered grand-mère’s house has faded charm but no châteauesque style or opulence: a few crumbly bits outside, frescoes and trunks in the hall, antlers in the dining room, floral wallpapers, large wardrobes and marble fireplaces in the bedrooms. These are light-filled and unashamedly old-fashioned but there’s soul; bathrooms are time-warp 70s; river-water murmurs below your window. Most of all, you’ll enjoy Frédéric – he’s refreshingly unfussy, occasionally mercurial and serves you excellent organic dinners; asparagus in season, baked fillet of perch: he really cares about food. In summer sit on the terrace by the river.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Frédéric Théry

  • The most famous person in the history of Nanteuil may be Nesta Cox, an English nanny who lived here from 1925 until her death in 1992, bringing up three generations, worked for the Resistance, and once had her 'proper English' tea parachuted by the RAF.
