The
Experience

So many small details have gone into making this centuries-old property special. Sally and Tony (who you may meet) have created a rustic and romantic cottage with its own private courtyard garden – heaven to sit here in summer when the old stone walls are smothered in roses. Inside find an open plan sitting/dining room with colourful paintings by James Cockburn, a painted dresser filled with beautiful ceramics and plenty of comfortable seating so you can flop around the cosy wood-burner (logs provided). Cooks won’t be lonely in the well-equipped kitchen which has all the stuff you need and plenty of counter space. Bedrooms are pretty, simple, beamed; the shower room is upstairs and there’s a bathroom on the ground floor. Larger parties can spill over to the main house – equally rustic, but with its own wavy terracotta floor, airy bedrooms, a half-timbered dining room, big sitting room and two super ‘party’ rooms on the ground floor. There’s plenty of outdoor space here, with large gardens, benches and tables under tall trees, BBQ and fabulous pool. Wander to the village, or explore excellent Loire Valley châteaux and vineyards.

Reviews

Ideally situated for visiting many of the chateaux of the Loire, La Maison Rose is located in the grounds of a beautiful farmhouse with access to a lovely swimming pool and a private entrance to a most delightful garden and gite. The interior of the gite was colourful and spacious, much enhanced by the paintings and ceramics on display. Welcoming, friendly and helpful hosts, which greatly added to the enjoyment of our stay.

La Maison Rose is a charming and very comfortable cottage in a great edge-of-village location. It has it's own beautifully planted, private garden and is a perfect base for exploring the ancient villages and magnificent chateaux of the Loire region - and to return to again and again. The owners are delightful and have created a really 'Special Place to Stay'.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Sally & Tony Markowski

  • A 2 minute stroll from a pretty village with a depot du pain, tennis, boules and basketball court and surrounded by Touraine countryside perfect for walking, cycling, bird watching and of course the cultural attractions of France's famous Loire Valley
  • 20 minutes from Beauval Zoo - amongst the world’s top ten - with giant pandas, snow leopards, elephants, otters and free flying condors. This intimate and lovely facility is great, especially if you have youngsters in tow
  • 15 minutes from Loches, which is like a medieval film set, with its donjon, portcullises, famous French royal family history, art work, churches and beautiful cobbled streets. The two food markets, on Wednesday and Saturday, are a must
  • 60 minutes from Villandry's world famous gardens, Chaumont-sur-Loire international garden festival and fifteen minutes from Chedigny where the Rose Festival in the last weekend of May is truly beautiful. Don't miss Montrésor, a local gem
  • Surrounded by exceptional Loire Valley wines (Vouvray, Bourgeuil, Chinon and Sancerre) with our current favourite, Joel Delaunay, 30 minutes away in St Aignon. Discover his sauvignon blanc and sparkling rosés before he becomes too famous!
  • Within 60 minutes drive of the all significant Loire Valley Chateaux as well as a host of smaller, privately owned properties, several within 15 or 20 minutes. Speak to us about rivers, lakes, golf, fishing, flea markets and anything of interest to you
