The
Experience

A placid river sets ancient mill stones grinding and flour flows; ducks dip, swans preen, geese saunter; gardens are beset by roses, herbs, bantams, goats, a hammock. The mill has been ingeniously restored by this hard-working family into a home, museum, a ballroom for weddings and a B&B, wrapped around a courtyard. Sleep in stables complete with manger; a two-room loft suite; a smart Miller’s Room with fireplace; a flint-walled cider press. Breakfast in the dayroom (sofa, games, candles, log fire) on fresh pastries from home-milled flour (of course). Chartres is close, Paris an easy train ride. A gem.

Reviews

A beautiful setting managed by a charming hostess who delights in showing her guests how the mill works. The Miller's Room was quiet and comfortable, and the breakfasts were delicious and very generous. A lovely place to stay for a short or long term break.

Local points of interest from Isabelle Heitz

  • First of all, on our site is THE water mill to visit. It is from 18th century, is still working and produces the flour for our breakfast's bread. The visit is about 15 mn and for all ages!
  • We are at the cross-road of 3 departments and several large touristic points of interest:
  • Eure & Loir: Chartres (medieval walking city center, cathedral, city lightening every night in spring and summer), Chateaudun & Bonneval (castle and canals), Maintenon (castle and aqueduct)... doorway to Loire Valley castles also,
  • Rambouillet (chateau, parc, forest, étangs de Hollande...) and Versailles castle a little further,
  • Dourdan (medieval castle), Etampes...
  • Paris, at less than an hour by car (I will advise you the best hour and way to go!), or by train from Auneau (to Austerlitz station)... you can go every day and then rest in our quiet place....!
