Cultured owners open their old family townhouse - timbers, spiral stone stairs, great fireplaces - and big, gentle bedrooms for elegant B&B

Rooms sleep 2

In an historic town, be welcomed by a charming, cultured couple to a 400-year-old house of fascinating origins. Thrill to Marielle’s tales: her ancestors built and extended the house, their portraits hang in the panelled drawing room; find time for François’ knowledge of history, geography and the environment. Up the elegant spiral stairs, bedrooms are in proper but unpompous château style, big, soft and quiet. Breakfast is in the beamy 16th-century dining room, or by the kitchen fire, or in the terraced garden overlooking jumbled rooftops, or in the luminous veranda. Then explore glorious Corrèze.

A lovely and comfortable home to stay in. Marielle and Francois made us so welcome. We enjoyed a great evening with them and their other guests. The room was very comfortable and so much nicer than staying in anonymous hotel. No hesitation in recommending this house and would love to stay again in this beautiful town.

Margaret, Winchester

Wonderful house, warm entertaining hosts easy conversation and very knowledgable about the area and ecology. Terrific food!! Gave us a route to follow the next day to see as much as we could of the area with info attached... really helpful.

Sue, Woking

The house is fantastic! Full of history, which Marielle shares with you. Stone, spiral staircase and lovely big rooms, which whisk you back through the centuries. Marielle and Francois take their breakfast with you and so you begin the day with cultured and lively conversation, as if with old friends. We also has several evening meals with them and continued the morning's conversation. Marielle took us on a sightseeing trip of the town and we went to her other family house for a look round.Guests had the run of the garden and a kitchen for simple meals and drinks.A lovely place to stay.

Sally, Chesham

What a privilege to stay in the amazing home of Marielle & François and to share their table for dinner and breakfast. So much varied and interesting conversation. On top of that, a beautiful town and environment. Highly recommended

Gay, Dorchester

Charming hosts - unusual character home steeped in history. Beautiful area of France we stayed 4 nights and had a lot of fun!

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Marielle & François Teyssier

  • We were chosen to represent the Limousin region in the March 2013 French television series (channel FR2) 'Favourite Homes of the French'. We were 8th out of the 22 places in France! Treignac has also been labelled "Petite Cité de Caractère" in 2018!
  • Corrèze is home to five of the 'most beautiful villages in France' and there are myriad unspoilt villages and châteaux to discover. Perched high above the winding river, strong, beautiful medieval Uzerche is rightly called the 'pearl of the Limousin'.
  • The annual book fair in Brive-la-Gaillarde is second only to Paris on the national calendar. It takes place in early November and is a lively literary meeting as well a place for booksellers and publishers to show their wares.
  • In July, the Château de Sédières is home to a wide-ranging festival of opera, pop, folk music and circus. The Kind Of Belou jazz festival happens in Treignac every August. These are just two of a plethora of musical and theatrical events on offer.
  • The regional nature park Millevaches en Limousin is a vast high-plateau mixture of heath, meadows and deciduous woods where wildlife abounds, from otters to linnets to rare butterflies, and history rises from every town and village. Do explore.
  • There are over 30 lakes in Corrèze offering water sports of all kinds, the nearest is 4km away. The largest is Bort-les-Orgues with its extraordinary island-bound castle. In the surrounding countryside, walkers of whatever level will find superb paths.
