The Experience

Views of hills and woodland fill every window. Walls are thick, space plentiful and deep windows limit unwelcome light. The kitchen has warm timber flooring, a wood-burner in the ancient hearth and an antique table for family feasts, owner Gilly leaves you local jams and biscuits.

Spread out in the sitting room with its colour-washed walls, exposed stone, comfortable sofas that can take an unruly child or two. One double room is downstairs, the second on the first floor and the other four are in the gabled attic with white walls. There are books, games, a DVD library and in the shared barn, table tennis and billiards.

Wander the well-cared-for gardens, find many places to sit under pergolas with stunning views across the valley to Curemonte – you can pack a picnic and walk a hilly path into town for wandering about or having lunch out. For bigger parties there’s a very pretty cottage on-site too – hire them both for weddings and workshops.

Reviews

Fleuret is the sort of timeless house where you know you will relax and wind down. Surrounded by nature, the gardens are well-cared for yet delightfully natural. The view on all sides is magnificent, especially when enjoying al-fresco meals. Inside the house has been carefully renovated to provide a cosy and homely atmosphere that is full of country charm while proving every modern comfort.

Sheila, Sawday's Inspector

We booked to stay at Fleurete House in June 2018 to celebrate my 60th Birthday. All was fantastic with the House, pool and Games room and over a 3 week period we were joined by 16 Family and Friends dropping in and staying a few days with us. Gilly arranged for us to have in house caterers for 3 evenings and they were fantastic. We also had 2 dogs with us and they had a great time as well. We will certainly be back in 2019 and/or 2020

Steve, Battle

We have stayed in Fleuret House many times since 2005 and that is recommendation in itself. Such a lovely house that we have filled to capacity with family events on several occasions. Gilly and Tim are always friendly and, to us, they are part of the package. Sit on the terrace and take in the evening sun or gaze over the valley to the medieval village of Curemonte. Sigh!!!

Location

The neighbourhood

Curemonte is a 5-minute drive. The popular towns of Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne and Collonges-la-Rouge are within a 20-minute drive and have a wide choice of restaurants. You'll find a local market every day within 12kms and the local shop Lou Pe De Gril sells produce entirely made from the fruit, flowers and vegetables of the region as well as locally-baked bread. Limoges is 1.5 hours.

Local points of interest from Tim & Gilly Mannakee

  • Just 3km from the mediaval village of Curemonte, part of the Viscountcy of Turenne dating back to the 9th Century. Other noteable sites include Collonges la Rouge, Carennac and Rocamadour all within 30 minutes of Fleuret . Fleuret dates back to 1640.
  • Walks and cycle rides from the house- routes provided. Enjoy the walnut groves and local vineyards while following 'Le Routes des Noix', or follow in the footsteps of St Jean Compostala whose pilgrimage passed through Rocamadour
  • Our village restaurant 'Le Barbacane' offers great value meals, and we also have a lovely local produce shop 'Lou Pé dé Gril' specialising in jams, chutneys, patisserie and local wines
  • Tim is a professional landscape photographer and every year we run a workshop here at Fleuret. We also offer yoga retreats and the property it the ideal location to celebrate a special occasion- we have hosted weddings, birthdays and family reunions.
  • The river Dordogne is just 10 mins from Fleuret, canoe downstream for a few hours, or picnic on the banks. Beaulieu sur Dordogne is known locally as the riviera of the South West, a little further upstream you'll find Argentat and Les Tour de Merles
  • The writer Colette famously spent a summer at the Chateaux de la Plas in Curemonte during the second world war.The Chateau was owned by her daughter, Bel Gazou, while Colette lived at Chateau Castel Nouvel just outside Brive during her second marriage.

Introducing

Tim & Gilly Mannakee

Gilly and Tim met when they both worked in the travel business and they discovered Fleuret many years ago. They brought up their children here, who attended local schools. The son of an architect, Tim project-managed the restoration and did much of the work himself. You’ll also see his photographs on the walls (ask about his courses on landscape photography). They are proactive and welcoming owners; there if you need them but discreet if you want privacy.
