This house, these hosts and Pézenas itself are a treat. Gilles is French and ran the family vineyard for years – he’ll give you tasting tips. Ruth is English, an interior architect and talented jam-maker – breakfasts won’t disappoint. You share their lovely home in a green part of town, in a beguiling, mature garden with a curvaceous pool. All is elegantly stylish but not too grand. Rooms are quietly, comfortably attractive: softly painted, striped and parquet-floored, park and garden-viewed. Pézenas will absorb you for hours with its brocante, antique and craft shops, its market, music and theatre – and many eateries.

Perfectly situated, yet delightfully secluded, Villa Juliette is one of my favourite B&Bs in France. Ruth & Gilles are helpful and a mine of information. The house is beautifully decorated with a mixture of antiques (Pezenas is renowned for its antique shops and bi-annual brocante fair) and contemporary detailing. The garden is a real haven, with a fabulous swimming pool. The centre of town is only a few minutes walk away, and it is a major plus to be able to park your car safely within the grounds. Breakfasts are scrumptuous! A relaxed and delightful hideaway in the beautiful town of Pezenas.

We spent a couple of nights here around New Year. Both Ruth and Gilles made us very welcome. Their house is a lovely combination of their English and French cultures respectively. Breakfasts were delicious and our room lacked for nothing. They were also very helpful in their recommendations of eateries and other attractions, of which there are many, in the surrounding area.

We stayed for 10 days and had a wonderful holiday. Ruth, and Giles are great hosts, their knowledge and advice was freely given and very much appreciated. It meant that we made the most of our visit. The rooms are furnished with style/care and the breakfasts in the garden were long and enjoyable. The hotel is ideally situated and the secure parking allowed us to walk to the restaurants and shops on returning from our tours of the region in the evening. Pezenas has a rich history and there is a great atmosphere in the town with plenty to see and do. We would certainly be happy to visit again.
