The
Experience

The village is known for its wine and Romanesque church; get up early on a clear day and you’re rewarded with a Pyrenean view. This is an elegant, fresh-painted maison de maitre whose warm, kind German owners, well integrated into French life, prepare for you a generous English breakfast (or a French one should you prefer) in a big friendly kitchen with a bright red wall. Immaculate and uncluttered bedrooms off a wide landing have sweeping wooden floors, handsome old pine doors, and space for button-back sofas. After a day out in idyllic Lagrasse or splendid Carcassonne, prepare to be spoiled by Marco’s fabulous dinners.

Reviews

Stephanie and Marco are wonderful hosts who do whatever they can to make your stay comfortable. Marco came out to meet us and offered refreshments on the terrace as soon as we were ready. And Marco's cooking is wonderful. We had a large room and decent size bathroom, spotlessly clean. They are very knowledgeable about local area and can't do enough for you. If we return to this area we would definitely go back again.

What a treat! La Maison des Rossignols is a late nineteenth century home - elegant and tastefully decorated, with furniture typical of the period. We were booked in for one night before driving on to our destination and were so impressed that we immediately booked in for a night on our return journey! Marco and Stephanie are marvellous hosts, charming and attentive - nothing was too much trouble. Marco clearly adores cooking. His food is quite simply outstanding. We hope to return to this beautiful and historically interesting area and I know where we will stay!

We had a lovely stay for two nights. Marco and Stephanie were delightful hosts and the rooms and house are beautiful and well-appointed. The breakfast is delicious and offers many fresh and local items, from bread to produce to honey and homemade jams. We took the option of having dinner at the table d'hotes two nights and were very pleased with our choice. Each night Marco served us 3 tasty and varied courses plus an inventive and thoughtful amuse bouche. Stephanie and Marco were also helpful with many tips about the area. We will highly recommend!

Charming, welcoming, friendly hosts; elegant house; very comfortable rooms; outstandingly good meals. General ambience, within the house and within the village, could not be faulted. We regret having planned to stay only three nights and would happily return.

Local points of interest from Marco Raumann

  • Cruises on the Canal du Midi - the finest way to discover the Canal du Midi and its magnificent scenery is by boat. You can take a cruise on our day-boat, the Tinto, which is available by prior reservation. For your enjoyment, we can prepare a picnic meal.
  • Enjoy authentic southern cuisine at one of our table d'hôtes dinners: a four-course menu, with a selection of local wines, might include homemade tapas, Boeuf Bourguignon or Bouillabaisse as a main course, and Languedoc cheeses.
  • Simplify your travel planning: You speak little or no French? Pas de problème! We can help you to enjoy your stay in the region with restaurant reservations, excursion planning and comprehensive advice. Talk to us – we’re always happy to help you.
  • Minerve, this magical village, one of the last refuges of the Cathars, sits on a rock outcrop high above the river Cesse, the valley of which runs to the south of the village. In the background is the Languedoc NationalPark, a landscape of pure beauty.
  • Côte Vermeille, the “vermillion coast” – so-named because of the dramatic sandstone hills which lie between the sea and the Pyrenees – is home to some of the most beautiful seaside villages in Europe. The coastal road is offering breathtaking views.
  • Lagrasse is considered to be one of the most beautiful villages of France, and it is among the most popular tourist sites in the Languedoc. It traces its history back over 1200 years to the foundation of the Abbey of Ste-Marie-d'Orbieu.
