An easy drive from Reims, these former stables have changed radically. Large, cool, downstairs areas – the mangers and tethering rings remain – are pale-tiled with dark leather sofas, games and books, an open fire, a glass-topped dining table, wrought-iron chairs. And you can do your own cooking in the fully fitted kitchen. Bedrooms are solid oak-floored, draped and prettily coloured with well-dressed beds, cushions, teddy bears, electric blinds and jacuzzi baths. The Jactats have farmed here for generations and tell of the rebuilding of their village in 1925. Take time to talk, and play boules in the sheltered garden.
