Le Jardin de la Cathédrale

Troyes, Aube
Bed & Breakfast

This is very special indeed. The town, the building, the cathedral, the interiors, the garden. Come to feel privileged and very French

A gorgeous setting for this 18th-century house and courtyard garden in front of the medieval cathedral. Interiors are stunning and colourful; light floods in from large windows in the drawing and dining rooms. Wake up early (the bells!) in suites which will delight and surprise: stained glass windows, incredible light hangings, vast beams, high ceilings and zingy wallpapers and fabrics. Oh, and a gigantic stuffed goose. At breakfast you feast on fresh pastries and bread with butter from Echirey and jams and honey from the Aube. Step outside for wonky half-timbered houses and the whole lovely town. Very special.

An exceptional place with extraordinary attention to detail and truly creative while feeling wholly "french". The room was very well equipped with every potential requirement thoughtfully provided (from the nespresso machine and the organic earl grey tea to the bath robes and reading matter). The breakfast was exquisitely laid out with beautiful and delicious organic and home made food . The garden is outstandingly beautiful with a perfect sense of place. The owners are charming, interesting and interested: a very talented creative pair.

This place had us flabbergasted. The rooms, we were lucky enough to get to see them all, are beautifully furnished with an excellent eye for decoration whilst offering all comforts one may expect nowadays. Regardless, the garden is the pièce de résistance, a little piece of paradise smack in the middle of town. Breakfast is in keeping with the whole setup of this B&B, fresh, varied and delicious. We did not want to leave.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Laetitia Krumenacher

  • In our neighbourhood, many old buildings have been preserved or rebuilt, such as the Cathedral and its stained glass, the episcopal palace, the old Saint-Loup abbey, or the old Hôtel-Dieu-le-Comte (now the university).
  • Right next to the house is the old episcopal palace which houses the rich collections of the Museum of Modern Art providing a unique view of the main trends in French art between 1850 and 1960 : Degas, Picasso, Matisse. This summer, great Renoir exhibition
  • Located in the old Hotel Dieu, the Cité du Vitrail is a unique place in France, entirely dedicated to the art of stained glass. This summer, it hosts an exhibition dedicated to the stained glass master Vincent-Larcher (XIXth), former owner of our house.

  • Breads, cheeses, cold meats, seafood, organic products, flowers, wines, cafés ... the Troyes market, housed in a 19th century Baltard market, is a lively and typical meeting place, very popular with locals.
  • My brother, Alexandre, is an oenologist and the one and only distiller of a delicious local liquor called La Prunelle de Troyes. By appointment, he will help you discover the Champagnes and wines of the region : Rosé des Riceys, Chabils, Epineul...
