The Experience

Sitting pretty, opposite the ancient church and right on the river – with its own jetty – Jan’s home is comfortably quirky, and spotless. In what was once the village inn you’ve a little warren of downstairs rooms with a huge collection of vinyl, loads of books, French, Dutch, Danish and English antiques; country breakfasts and dinners, served beautifully, in the kitchen or on one of the terraces. Peaceful bedrooms, up winding stairs, with gentle views; two cosy under the eaves – and bathrooms both properly modern and pleasingly retro. Take to the river, hire an E-bike and go cycling, explore Besançon and the vineyards of the Côte d’Or.

A perfect stay - gorgeous house, lovely owner Jan and of course very cute little dog Loupette! Very comfortable beds in a stylish room, peace and quiet with a delicious dinner, free flowing wine and great conversation. Wonderful breakfast too! Thank you Jan

We found Jan’s Place on our tour. Stayed 4 days because of the Civid9 Travelstop. We had a safe and well organised stay and the breakfast is of surprising quality. Next visit we will even make a détour for that!

Just perfect ! Our fifth visit to Jan's Place and this time we stayed for five nights. Idyllic surroundings right next to the river, a house filled with antiques, wonderfully comfortable and superb home cooked food. Walks, cycling and you should make time to venture into the Jura which is beautiful and so unspoilt. We will be back - of course !

We had a great stay, the rooms are very confortable and stylish and there is a beautiful garden overlooking the river. Jan is a wonderful host and a great cook.

We had a lovely visit at Jan’s place in Burgundy for 4 nights. The B&B is such a welcoming venue at the border of the Saône. Jan is a perfect host and always in for a chat or providing information about he area. We had a great time.

We stayed at Jan’s place for a few days this summer. This is such a beautiful place to stay and to relax. Jan took great care of the decoration of the house, every room is charming and our room was very comfortable. We also enjoyed the terrace in the garden, which is overlooking the river with splendid views. Jan is a great host, you”ll feel welcome from the first moment. He’s also an excellent cook, the breakfast outside is a treat and we also had a lovely dinner. Highly recommended!

Comfortable and lovely room, clean bathroom, warm host, exquisite dinner. We really enjoyed our stay!

Our third to visit to Jan's Place. This time in February - so swapped summer evenings by the river for log fires and cosy beds. Jan's welcome and delicious dinner was as ever. We shall simply keep coming back on our journeys down to Provence.

This was our third visit to Jan's Place, and it is a very special one ! Having stayed for overnight stops previously we were determined to come back for longer to explore the local area, enjoy the peace and tranquility of Ecuelles and Jan's wonderful hospitality. The house is beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. The garden runs down to the river and is a great place to relax. The table d'hote is superb, often with produce from Jan's garden - everything about this place comes high recommended.

What a lovely hoodie and how welcome did Jan make us feel. We loved everything about our visit , especially the food and the great setting. The area is very special. We will definitely re-book.

We spent 2 nights with Jan on our way to Provence and Tuscany. It was a brilliant place to break the journey and start our holiday. Our dog appreciated the opportunity to stretch his legs (and swim in the river) after a day in the car. Jan couldn't have been more welcoming, and we enjoyed an excellent meal with his other guests, a Welsh couple, an Irish couple and an English couple staying with a Dutchman in France. Amazing food, good company and free-flowing wine, B&B at its best. And great breakfasts too!

We stayed for eight days at Jan's place and enjoyed it very much. Jan is a great host, dinner and breakfast is very good, the house is wonderful and the location is a very nice place. The surroundings are beautiful to discover, especially on e-bikes. We come back again because we haven't seen it all.

We had a fabulous stay here with our three small children. Jan's place is a very special place, beautifully furnished and immaculately clean. Jan couldnt have been a more helpful and kind host and was very accommodating of our small children. Our girls said it was their best breakfast ever and still talk about the teapot and the amazing spread! Thank you Jan. We hope to visit again and couldnt recommend this place more highly.

We used Jan's Place as a stop off on a long drive from London to the Luberon. It was the perfect overnight stay. A beautiful setting by the river, lovely walks, fresh bedrooms, excellent food both supper and breakfast provided by Jan along with a warm welcome.

Jan’s Place is a suburb place to stay. The standard of accommodation and it’s location is amongst the best we have stayed in. The attention to design and detail is very impressive and very stylish. The evening meal and breakfast were exceptional and we were lucky to share these meals with other guests whose company we really enjoyed. In addition Jan’s welcome and wish to make our stay memorable was outstanding. This is a jewel of a place to stay.

Jan was a fabulous host, chatty, welcoming and spoke perfect English. Our dinner was excellent (he used to be a chef for many years) and the breakfast was extensive & served outside in the pretty courtyard. The village is very quiet and we had no worries parking our motorcycle at the front of the property. Would highly recommend and will definitely return when we are in the area again.

Jane & Steve, Nottingham

Beautiful location by a river and lovely spacious clean room. Jan is an excellent host and we felt very welcome. We had dinner at his place which was absolutely delicious, as he is a former chef. Would definitely recommend. :)

Just a 1-night stay for us as we were travelling North from Spain, but what a lovely welcome Jan gave us. We had a lovely room which was VERY clean, comfortable and well decorated and with lovely bathroom fittings. The terrace overlooking the River Soane is really nice and It's a great place to meet other guests. Dinner (which is best ordered when you book the room) was tasty and well cooked, and came with wine to your taste for only 20 Euros per person. All in all, a great experience that we'll repeat next time we're travelling that area.
