The
Experience

Sitting pretty, opposite the ancient church and right on the river – with its own jetty – Jan’s home is comfortably quirky, and spotless. In what was once the village inn you’ve a little warren of downstairs rooms with a huge collection of vinyl, loads of books, French, Dutch, Danish and English antiques; country breakfasts and dinners, served beautifully, in the kitchen or on one of the terraces. Peaceful bedrooms, up winding stairs, with gentle views; two cosy under the eaves – and bathrooms both properly modern and pleasingly retro. Take to the river, go cycling, explore Besançon and the vineyards of the Côte d’Or.

Reviews

Beautiful location by a river and lovely spacious clean room. Jan is an excellent host and we felt very welcome. We had dinner at his place which was absolutely delicious, as he is a former chef. Would definitely recommend. :)

Just a 1-night stay for us as we were travelling North from Spain, but what a lovely welcome Jan gave us. We had a lovely room which was VERY clean, comfortable and well decorated and with lovely bathroom fittings. The terrace overlooking the River Soane is really nice and It's a great place to meet other guests. Dinner (which is best ordered when you book the room) was tasty and well cooked, and came with wine to your taste for only 20 Euros per person. All in all, a great experience that we'll repeat next time we're travelling that area.

Local points of interest from Jan Reuvers

  • Take a car or bike tour through the UNESCO World Heritage listed vineyards along the great Burgundy wine road, winding its way through the famous wine villages of Côtes de Nuite and Côtes de Beaune. Visit the wine cellars for some fine wine tasting.
  • There are plenty of special historical cities to explore in the region. Medieval Autun & Beaune, with its splendid Hospice Dieux, the former capital of the dukes of Burgundy - Dijon, and the beautiful citadel of the roman era in Besançon.
  • The nearby Jura mountain range offers a variety of things to do, such as hiking, strolling through the small wine village of Arbois and chateau Chalon. Experience the former splendor of the salt mining town of Salin-les-bains.
  • Visit the écomusée in the old chateau of Pierre-de-Bresse and complete your tour with a special lunch at Hotel de la Poste (awarded with a Michelin bib gourmand).
  • Get active, hop on a bike, and choose one of 5 itineraries from the 800-km Burgundy biking circuit. The routes are most often located along canals on towpaths, on former railways and may even cut across vineyards and country landscapes.
  • Relax with a book and a glass of wine on the river side terrace at Jan's place, and enjoy a home cooked meal.
