The
Experience

On the site of a 14th-century hamlet, this handsome Breton property has two very well-renovated houses to let. They can be taken separately or work well together for a larger group, and share three acres of garden and woodland on the Nantes-Brest canal.

You’ll get a friendly welcome from Kevin and Louise, who have set out to preserve original features (arched stone fireplaces, ceiling beams) while adding practical and well-equipped kitchens and efficient wood-burners. They’ve thought of everything, from a gin and tonic on arrival to stocking the fridge for you with nice things.

Head out to the heated pool for a dip, or on bikes for a peaceful pedal along the towpath (spot an otter!) – to lunch, perhaps Michelin-starred, in Mur-de-Bretagne (five miles). You’re a short drive from Lake Guerlédan for swimming and watersports, and just over an hour from the Gulf of Morbihan for sailing and stunning coastlines.

Reviews

What an excellent find in a lovely part of Brittany! The Longere was perfect with a downstairs bedroom and bathroom for my husband who has limited mobility. The outside space was glorious and the huge garden leading on to the river was wonderful. My husband’s mobility scooter was soon sorted with Kevin and Louise finding a solution for everything and we were off down the towpath by the peaceful river. Our hosts were brilliant with suggestions of where we might visit and just in being so friendly and helpful. We were blessed with good weather which made this pre-Brexit trip near perfect.

This is a marvellous location from which you can explore the delights of the region and we can't believe there's anywhere better to stay. There's everything you desire and nothing is too much trouble. Louise and Kevin have created a wonderful environment - we spent 7 great days here. Can't recommend it highly enough.

This place is a little gem from the heated pool, to the endless lawn that's perfect to kick a ball about, to wildlife watching on the canal towpath, there was loads to keep two small kids entertained; even on rainy days. Kevin and Louise are just delightful. Everything was provided and nothing was too much trouble. We came out one morning to a flat tyre and Kevin got us back on the road with a mini compressor to keep us going if we got stuck. When we went to say thank you Louise just shrugged and said "that's what we're here for!". Just amazing.

We were delighted to find this fabulous location for our summer break. Being located in central Brittany, Le Clezio serves as a perfect base for exploring the region. We particularly enjoyed seafood lunches in Vannes and Auray. The accommodation is luxurious at the same time as being incredibly dog-friendly! The extensive grounds are well-maintained and create an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. We are very grateful to Louise and Kevin who are dedicated to making sure that everyone ( including canine companions) has a wonderful holiday.

Second time back and still just as beautiful! Gorgeous weather, lazy days at the lake paddle bording and best pizza picnic! Walks and bike rides along the canal, star gazing on the lawn at night and after a lovely day what better than to drop into the most luxurious and comfortable beds. The warmest welcome awaits you at Le Clezio..... if you want peacefulness, warm sunny days, a refreshing swim in the pool, good food, tasty wine (and cheap), quaint French markets, luxurious furnishings and attentive hosts then this is the place for you! Back again next year!

Spent a wonderful week staying at Le Clezio with our two children (6 & 3 yrs) Stayed at Le Longere which was lovely and beautifully furnished. The comfy super king master bed is divine! Kevin & Louise are such welcoming hosts and nothing is too much trouble! They kindly provide bikes which you can use along the scenic canal path at the bottom of their garden. House is perfectly located to Le Lac Guerdelain (10 mins drive) which has sandy beaches & pedaloes for hire which our children loved. Enjoyed day trips to Carnac, Auray and Vannes too. Highly recommend and hope to return again soon!

Spent two wonderful weeks in the cottage with our old dog, who, like us, loved the very large & amazing garden & the nearby canal towpath for walks. We relaxed on the lovely patio (great garden furniture and parasols), swam in the pool and enjoyed the great BBQ. Le Clezio is a great location to explore Brittany as it's situated more or less in the centre and so both north and south coasts are pretty easily reached. Louise and Kevin were very attentive and made sure that everything was tip top for our stay! We'd love to visit again!

We had an absolutely fabulous week with you this month, aided in no small part by the glorious weather. Your property is absolutely stunning and a perfect setting for a relaxing family week holiday. The property had everything that we needed, including the egg cups (!) and was like home from home. It was wonderful not to come back with a car full of dirty laundry too, thanks for the use of the machines. Oliver is still talking about the pool, the water pistols, and of course the bikes. We all enjoyed pottering along the river on the bikes with the boys on the back, a great touch.

Louise, Devon

We spent two wonderful weeks at Le Clezio with our two girls (2 and 5 yrs). The location and facilities are perfect for children with access to a lake with a sandy beach, watersports and restaurants only 10 minutes away and a canal towpath at the bottom of the garden (we recommend bringing bicycles), not to mention the heated swimming pool. The Longere was very comfortable and characterful - we wish we could have taken the bed home. Kevin and Louise are warm and friendly hosts. We booked to return in 2017 within a week!

Two weeks at Le Clezio.... Not long enough! From the minute we arrived we were made so welcome by Kevin, Louise and beautiful Brie. We stayed in the cottage which has everything you need... The most comfortable furnishings and luxurious bedding along with the peaceful surroundings. We loved taking the bikes straight onto the cycle path next to the canal then popping back for a refreshing swim in the beautiful pool. Sunny days at the lake with a picnic and water sports for all ages. A perfect holiday with perfect hosts! We were so well looked after, can't wait to go back!

Jennifer, Preston

This is a fantastic place for a relaxing holiday. We stayed at the Longere and couldn't have been more comfortable. The standard of the accommodation is excellent, three rooms, all in effect with en-suite bathrooms (very useful when you have daughters who take ages to get ready every day). The pool was a welcome retreat in the hotter afternoons and there are plenty of bike to borrow to cycle on the canal tow path or quiet roads. The owners are on site, always happy to help but never being obtrusive. A great location.

David, Welwyn

We all had a lovely week at Le Clezio. Louise and Kevin couldn't have made us feel more welcome and the cottage was immaculate. Our boys had an absolute ball in the pool and loved running around the enormous garden. An idyllic location and a great base to explore Brittany.

Jane, Cambridge

Wondeful place to stay, the cottage is fantastic and the gardens and pool just make it a great place too stay.Louise and Kevin are great hosts, very enjoyable holiday !!!!

Jonathan, Congleton

We had a wonderful week at le clezio, Louise and Kevin looked after us very well and had thought of everything that we might need. We had our baby with us and they supplied a cot, a baby bath and even turned up the temperature on the pool to make his first swim as relaxed as possible. It is a charming place and beautifully maintained, we would love to return.

Clare, Cambridge

We have just returned from what I can only describe as a "Truly memorable and great holiday at Le Clezio". As a family we enjoyed the garden so very much, morning strolls in Wellies and Shorts, to Relay races with Brie (the dog) and the children! Not to mention playing tag, the Paddling Pool, Hose Play, wow that water from the source was ccccold! We did enjoy wildlife walks by the canal, playing pooh sticks and riding ALL the bikes! A Special Thanks to Louise and Kevin for welcoming us with open arms, croissants and a cold drink when we were exhausted!! See you again in 2015 - "A bientot!" xxx

Alistair

Totally agree with all the other reviews. Cottage beautifully renovated and furnished and comprehensively equipped; Kevin and Louise extremely helpful; location tranquil and perfect for day trips to many locations including north and south Brittany coasts. We'll be back!

Mike

Lovely hosts, nothing too much trouble. Comfortable cottage, well furnished and equipped. Peaceful location. Perfect!

Sue

All our expectations were met when we arrived. Great hosts, immaculate property, excellent cycling on the doorstep. The property is close to the Lac de Guerledan which is a beautiful place with miles of walks and cycle trails. We will definitely be returning.

Colin

We loved Le Clezio, the Cottage was perfect as were our hosts, Kevin & Louise, the canal cycle paths at the bottom of the garden, Pontivy Monday market, Lac de Guerledan, the beds, the Gazebo, the weather, the plums and apples from the orchard and Brie the dog (and I don't like dogs normally) We will be back!

Susan

We were looking for somewhere relaxing and tranquil and that's exactly what we got. Right from the outset we were impressed with the communication from the owners. We received a very warm welcome and guided tour of the cottage. Kevin and Louise have put a great deal of thought into Le Clezio. The interior of the cottage is immaculate and very well equipped. The owners are delightful and very knowledgeable about the local area. They are extremely accommodating without being intrusive. Our children thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful garden and freedom to cycle. The peace is addictive at Le Clezio

Location

The neighbourhood

Le Clezio lies just north of the village of Pontivy. It's a very rural area, and the houses are surrounded by dairy farms and fields. Three acres of gardens adjoin the River Blavet, which runs from the Lake Guerlédan to Pontivy and beyond. Walking along the riverbank is amazingly peaceful - you may spot otters, herons and woodpeckers. The nearest shops are in Neulliac, about a mile away, but for a big shop you need to travel to Mur-de-Bretagne (ten minutes) or Pontivy (fifteen).

Local points of interest from Louise & Kevin Wellden

Introducing

Louise & Kevin Wellden

Louise wanted to live in France since she first visited as a child and eventually moved to Le Clezio with her husband Kevin after he retired. Their aim was to create a special place that guests could call home, in well-renovated properties surrounded by peaceful countryside. They love having people to stay and find nothing more satisfying than having guests returning time and time again.
