In leafy grounds with views of medieval Dol de Bretagne, a lovely big house and two super gîtes – great for families and groups. In the house find an enormous kitchen with French windows looking onto your own garden and a long pine table with plenty of room for all. The sitting room is truly comfortable with cream sofas and a log-burner; bedrooms are light and bright with rustic furniture and romantically canopied beds; modern bathrooms sport free-standing cast-iron baths and elegant washstands. In the gîtes (one is more compact but has a mezzanine and a private courtyard, the other a large open kitchen with sociable table) wooden beams cap impressive stone walls with decorative fireplaces; kitchens are reassuringly modern; and large sofas and antique furniture inhabit airy, comfy living rooms. Fishing nets drape the stairs which take you to wood-floored, warmly lit bedrooms and slick, contemporary bathrooms. You’re a couple of miles from the nearest beach and shops; Mont St Michel, St Malo and Dinan are within 16. A very good spot with friendly hosts on site – Lucy is a talented milliner and can offer you courses too.
