The
Experience

In leafy grounds with views of medieval Dol de Bretagne, a lovely big house and two super gîtes – great for families and groups. In the house find an enormous kitchen with French windows looking onto your own garden and a long pine table with plenty of room for all. The sitting room is truly comfortable with cream sofas and a log-burner; bedrooms are light and bright with rustic furniture and romantically canopied beds; modern bathrooms sport free-standing cast-iron baths and elegant washstands. In the gîtes (one is more compact but has a mezzanine and a private courtyard, the other a large open kitchen with sociable table) wooden beams cap impressive stone walls with decorative fireplaces; kitchens are reassuringly modern; and large sofas and antique furniture inhabit airy, comfy living rooms. Fishing nets drape the stairs which take you to wood-floored, warmly lit bedrooms and slick, contemporary bathrooms. You’re a couple of miles from the nearest beach and shops; Mont St Michel, St Malo and Dinan are within 16. A very good spot with friendly hosts on site – Lucy is a talented milliner and can offer you courses too.

Reviews

The big house is wonderful. Masses of space inside, with a kitchen big enough to cope with an invasion of tired and hungry children. Outside, the walled garden gives the children a safe area for play. And before they wake up one morning, watch the sun rise over the surrounding fields....a few moments of perfect peace!

We had a fabulous time in this wonderful house. We stayed in the "Vieux Manoir" and really enjoyed the charme character of this place. Can't wait to come back. Thank you for this wonderful time.

We had a lovely stay in the Vieux Manoir during the peak of the summer season in Brittany. Lucy and her husband were wonderful hosts and the house was quite perfect for our family. The beach was a few minute drive away, where we delighted in the best mussels we have ever tasted. Every day was a new adventure as Mont-Dol is centrally located. We explored new beaches daily, took day trips to Mont Saint Michel, Dinard, Cancale, St. Malo, the list goes on and on. We are returning there this summer and are looking forward to another relaxing holiday.

The neighbourhood

Local points of interest from Amandine Frain

  • Why not take a short walk and steep climb up the Mont Dol to breathtaking views overlooking the bay of Mont St Michel. Or walk through bustling French markets any day of the week in nearby beautiful towns
  • Being only 3km from the Bay where the moules are fished, you are spoilt for choice to find seafood and delicious fish that is freshly plucked from the sea.
  • Close to one of the biggest tree-climbing and abseiling parks in Europe
  • A 5 minute drive to the best walking and shell-collecting beaches in the Bay of Mont St Michel and 20 minutes drive to safe and unspoilt swimming beaches spread along the coast between St Malo and Cancale where there is always a place for a towel or four.
  • Visit Mont St Michel. It is 25 minutes drive away. Book a guide and walk across the damp sands before watching the tide come in. The evenings are particularly beautiful and after 19h00 when the crowds have left and the Mont is magical with lights.
  • Make the most of being so close to the coast; we can easily arrange for you to sail, surf, kayake or sand sail, all ten minutes from the doorstep of the Manoir.
