The Experience

Down the country driveway that splits into two (each leading to a gîte) is a sweet little hideaway, a stone cottage for two (and a child). There’s a gravelled area outside with a strip of lawn and a terrace for sunsets, and views to the Pointe du Raz, Brittany’s Land’s End – you can see the Île de Sein on a good day. Step into a fresh, open-plan and tile-floored space: a compact kitchen, sunny and bright, with a fridge, microwave and oven, and a sitting room with a vast open fireplace (sheer delight on a dark windy night).

Find deep sills and upright timbers, a little sofa, wicker chairs, the original staircase. Up to the mezzanine to find a single bed, then into the comfortable bedroom with skylights in white sloping walls; the shower room is downstairs. Bucolic views are framed by thick stone walls and the window sills are deep.

Visit markets, pack a picnic and head for the coast – the beaches are sublime and you can sail.

Reviews

You'll be overwhelmed by the charm of this little farmworker's cottage the moment you walk in. The huge fireplace speaks of decades gone by, a hearth where labourers snuggled up after a long day's toil, enjoying the peace and quiet of this rural retreat. I especially love the wooden stairs, whose handrail has been worn glossy-smooth., and the views of the nearby chapel from the living room.

Annaliza, Sawday's Inspector

We had a perfect week here in the middle of a 3 week driving holiday. Agnes was very helpful from the first enquiry right through to welcoming us on arrival -with a lovely gift of Breton cider and biscuits :) Everything was exactly as described, very clean and well equipped, we could fault nothing. Although there is another detached gite next door we were totally unaware of them as the gardens face in opposite directions. The situation is perfect to visit many sights, and Pentrez plage is a very short drive away. We wouldn't hesitate to return, thank you Agnes!

Location

The neighbourhood

The area is a nature lover's paradise, a wild landscape of beaches and sea, Cornwall as it used to be – all you'll hear are the gulls and the birds. You'll find shops and a Friday market in Plomodiern (one mile), and an outstanding restaurant, L'Auberge des Glazicks, whose young chef is a master of 'terre et mer' cuisine. The coast is close for sailing, fishing, paragliding or yachting.

Local points of interest from Agnès Le Jollec-Tanguy

  • Walks on your doorstep. Beaches 4kms;
  • Situated halfway between Quimper and Brest, closed to the Armorica Regional Nature Park and Crozon peninsula.
  • Sailing, paragliding, water sports, sand yachting, fishing... not far from the cottage
  • Many festivals throughout the region in summer
  • Conveniently located for visiting the cultural heart of Brittany (Museums and gothic cathedral in Quimper, the medieval village of Locronan., Douarnenez....)
  • Organic fields around the cottage, perfect for birds and bees and many walks into nature!

Introducing

Agnès Le Jollec-Tanguy

Agnès has lived and studied in Paris, worked in teaching and agricultural management, and studied law. She had the great opportunity to do an internship in a solicitor firm in the UK, before starting to run a legal business in France and to take over her family farm and buildings. She has since learned all about running an organic farm, producing cereals and other crops in the surrounding fields.
