The
Experience

Loll on velvet sofas or wrap up warm on the patio; the ocean views surprise and delight you as you open the door. This former light-keeper’s cottage is a lovely retreat, with a kitchen fit for chefs and a panorama from every window.

Stroll into Esquibien for croissants and crepes; hop in the car to Audierne. This popular seaside port has a sailing school in summer and a market on Saturdays and Wednesdays. As for beaches, the Plage de Trescadec, safe for families, is five minutes down the coastal path, with sands, swims, and lifeguards in summer. St Tugen beach, set among wild protected sand dunes, is an hour’s walk but worth every step.

As darkness falls, light the fire pit outside. Or snuggle up on a sofa beneath the great glass roof on the landing and raise a glass to the stars.

Reviews

This house is a fantastic place, both inside and outside. On entering the house you are welcomed by great interior architecture and design, with light flooding the whole house. Then you see the spectacular view of the sea. The nature of this part of France is the changing weather conditions, which means the sea is permanently changing, smooth and calm one day and angry and violent the next day - it makes for excellent viewing from the house, or from the nearby coastal path (50 yards). We even experienced the stunning sight of dophins swimming by one calm evening. It is all fantastic.

Tom, The hague

This kind of place inspires creative types to write, paint or snuggle with a book, while others will immediately want to explore the coast or nearby sandy beaches. Enjoy French life, rocked by the rhythm of the tides and the ever-changing seascapes in a home fitted out with luxury and comfort as guiding principles.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Pointe de Lervily is only 15km from the Pointe du Raz: Brittany's very own Land's End. Walk the coastal path (the glorious GR34 runs past the door), swim, surf, and watch out for currents. In Audierne (4km) you can stock up, eat out and learn to sail, or join summer's trippers on a boat to the Ile de Sein. It’s as wild as Brittany gets, and you can spear fish, crab and dive.

Local points of interest from Jean-Yves Huitric

  • You're a few mins drive away from one of Brittany's most famous landmarks, the Pointe du Raz, a rocky outcrop with steep and jagged 70m cliffs. This is literally the End of the World with fantastic views over the ocean & the Sein Island.
  • A few mins away from the Pointe du Raz, we recommend the stunning and quieter Pointe du Van. The Coastal Path along the steep cliffs lead you to a beautiful chapel (Sainte They), past an exposed fisherman cove and to a wild surfer beach.
  • 5min walk from the ferry to the Sein Island. 8 miles away from the Pointe du Raz, this tiny island is barely more than a line in the ocean 1 mile long and only 6m above the water at its highest point. 250 people live there full time . A great day out.
  • Audierne is a working fishing harbour with amazing seafood. It is famous in France for its seabass caught by line in the treacherous waters. Local fishermen also catch plenty of crabs, lobsters and langoustines which you can buy at the Saturday market.
  • A great place for watersports. The sea is at the end of the garden and the reef is ideal for fishing, spear fishing, catching spider crabs. The sailing school on the main beach is a 5min walk, the surfing & kayaking school a short drive away.
  • The Lervily Point and the Ile aux Vaches just outside the house are 2 of the best surfing/windsurfing spots in Brittany. On big winter swells, waves reach 6m and all the best congregate for epic sessions. You can watch the show straight from the lounge!

Introducing

Jean-Yves Huitric

Jean-Yves, whose roots are in Brittany, worked in the City of London for 20 years. Then the house he had long had his eye on came onto the market, and he returned to Audierne in 2015. Now, after extensive renovations, the Semaphore is ready to welcome guests. Jean-Yves lives with his young family nearby, ready with advice whenever you need it.
