Auberge de Chassignolles

We stayed for just one night to break our journey from Caen to the south coast, and this was the perfect stay. The village was pretty, and the auberge looked like a very typical French auberge. The room was fairly basic but comfortable (but very reasonably priced). But the food was amazing; everything on the fixed menu was delicious. The staff were great, and we had very good advice on what wine to choose. Breakfast was wonderful too; fresh fruit, great bread, home made jams, good honey etc etc. Great value for the quality of food.

At the Auberge de Chassignolles quality comes naturally, in every sense of the word. Delicious food, exceptional wines, unfussy service, all in a totally unspoilt mid-mountain village in the heart of rural France. Take a drive to local towns and villages, revel in the magnificent countryside, or just kick off your shoes and relax... it's the perfect place to get away from it all.

We spent a delightful two nights here. Your description is very accurate. The village itself is very tranquil and beautiful (although the church bells do ring from 7am, so no alarm clock needed!). We were able to take a lovely walk around the countryside with a walk map provided by Peter. The provenance of the food is clearly of importance and, together with the wine list made up principally of local wines, the set menu dinner was joyeous.

We were offered an apartment adjacent to the hotel. Very clean and charmingly rustic albeit a little basic. The evening meal in the hotel was fantastic, as was breakfast all made from locally sourced produce. The hosts were charming and very welcoming. A delightful, authentic and friendly hotel; we will definitely be returning.

This Auberge is almost a British fanstasy of idyllic rural France! Busy and vibrant and a real focal point for the surrounding community. The hosts and staff are charming, with excellent value rooms, great dinner, and stupendous wines. If only I had more room for the utterly delicious unpasteurised milk, yoghurt and butter on offer at breakfast....

Our 2nd brief stay at the Auberge. It's hard to imagine a more tranquil setting. Harry has moved on, but the ethos of the place hasn't changed and the food is possibly even better than before. See you again next year.

Loved it. Great little hotel. Great welcome. Great food and wine. Amazing setting. Can't recommend it highly enough. We'll definitely be back.

After a long drive though the Ardeche, this hamlet in the forest was special. The little hotel is simple and characterful, while the setting, with a medieval ruin, romanesque church and distant views offered a quiet background to the life in the Auberge. This is the "town center": it was filled with local residents in the tiny Bar/Lobby and then in the Dining Room where we ate well and copiously. We could stray only one night but others will enjoy the outdoor activities of the area with more time to spend.
